At St. John’s High School, our mission is to provide a high-quality learning experience that prioritizes strong relationships and high expectations, ensuring every student graduates college- and career-ready. We are proud to share that our School Report Card rating has improved to Average, placing us just 0.57 points away from earning a Good rating. This progress reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families as we continue striving toward our vision of becoming an Excellent-rated high school that develops world-class citizens and lifelong learners.
At St. John’s, we proudly embrace the identity of a “small school that provides big opportunities.” This year, we focused intentionally on strengthening academic performance through structured instructional planning within our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), while also expanding opportunities across Academics, the Arts, and Athletics.
Throughout the year, our teachers engaged in meaningful collaboration through PLCs, working closely with colleagues, our instructional coach, and school leadership. These sessions were centered on analyzing student data, sharing effective instructional strategies, and identifying targeted supports to meet students’ individual needs. This ongoing collaboration allowed teachers to make real-time adjustments to instruction and ensure that every student received the support necessary to achieve at higher levels.
We have also continued to expand academic opportunities that prepare students for success beyond high school. This year marked the launch of our first cohort in the Academy of Advanced Academics, where students enrolled in at least one college-level course alongside honors coursework. Our strong partnership with Trident Technical College provided students access to an eight-course Dual Enrollment series taught on our campus by college professors. More than 40 students took advantage of these opportunities, along with other dual-enrollment courses taught by our own faculty, giving them multiple pathways to earn college credit.
In addition, we strengthened our commitment to career readiness through partnerships with local businesses and entrepreneurs. A cohort of senior students completed 40 hours of career-based training and education, ensuring they graduated fully prepared for post-secondary success. We are also proud that over 20 students earned internship credit while serving as classroom assistants at Angel Oak Primary School. Many of these students have expressed a desire to pursue careers in education, highlighting the lasting impact of these experiences.
Our arts programs continue to flourish. Alongside growth in Band and Visual Arts, we introduced Theater as a credited course this year. With our newly designed black-box theater, students developed skills in acting, stage production, prop design, and makeup artistry. Through a partnership with Haut Gap Middle School, students collaborated on a spring performance, creating a vibrant and engaging artistic experience that strengthened our school community.
Athletics at St. John’s continues to grow and thrive. We proudly offer a wide range of competitive sports, including Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Wrestling, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, and Track. This year, we were excited to introduce Varsity Golf to our program, with a 9th-grade student winning the 1-A individual State Championship and becoming St. John’s first-ever Golf State Champion. Our student-athletes achieved remarkable success, with our Boys Varsity Baseball team returning as Region Champions, along with our Girls Track Team. Our Varsity Boys Soccer team ranked #2 in the state among 1A schools after holding the #1 position for much of the season.
As we look ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, we are energized by the opportunities to continue our upward trajectory. We plan to expand our AVID program, grow the Academy of Advanced Academics through a partnership with Charleston Southern University, and introduce an after-school Orchestra program. Additionally, we will strengthen our athletic offerings by launching a middle school C-team Football program and adding Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis teams as we enhance our campus facilities.
There is tremendous momentum at St. John’s High School. With so many exciting initiatives underway and even more on the horizon, we are confident that the best is yet to come. We are grateful for your continued support and partnership, and we look forward to building an even brighter future together for our students.
