Whale Branch Early College High School is a high-performing school that believes all students can learn and provides every student with opportunities to excel. We collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that our students obtain world-class skills, meet the requirements of the Profile of a South Carolina High School Graduate, and achieve career and college readiness. We do this by providing high-quality professional development for teachers and staff, utilizing data to bolster student achievement, fostering a learning environment conducive to collaboration and teamwork, and employing critical-thinking and problem-solving skills through project-based learning and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) focused curriculum.
We are excited to share the remarkable accomplishments and exciting initiatives at Whale Branch Early College High School. Our commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement is evident in our school’s main foci as well as in the range of school-sponsored initiatives, activities, and programs that have enriched the educational experience for our students. In April of 2026 WBECHS added to our school’s MedTech 7 Technology Magnet and Early College foci by becoming a Cognia STEM-accredited school.
The WBECHS wellness committee continues to initiate various activities to promote the well-being of our students and staff. From staff weight-loss challenges to a student-run garden and reusable water bottles for all students, to Wellness Wednesdays when faculty are encouraged to incorporate a wellness activity into their class time, these efforts foster a healthy and environmentally conscious school community.
Our commitment to academic excellence is underscored by programs such as AMP'D, an afterschool enrichment program sponsored and provided by Model the Way, Inc.; STEM before and after school tutoring and enrichment; and departmental and community STEM Nights where our faculty and staff provide quality instruction, support, and engagement for students and their families. As a result of our efforts, WBECHS consistently performs among the top high schools in the district on the Algebra I and English II EOC tests.
Our community outreach, engagement, and commitment from our volunteers are unparalleled. Our student organizations include Student Government, Principal's Ambassadors, FBLA, HOSA, Athletic Leadership, Women in Cybersecurity, and E-Sports, as well as male and female mentoring organizations. These students participate in district feedback focus groups, community cleanups, and food distributions, as well as leadership conferences and competitions.
Our Warrior Band is the most rapidly growing band program in our district and has received multiple recognitions, including the distinction of "Best Performing Unit" in the Heritage Days Celebration Parade. Our commitment to school pride and beautification is evident in new cafeteria furniture, outdoor seating, and vibrant murals. Our school also ranked number 21 on USA Today’s Best South Carolina High Schools for Athletics list.
