Riverwalk Academy is dedicated to helping all students develop the World Class Skills and life and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We achieve this by cultivating an environment rooted in student inquiry and authentic learning experiences, equipping our students with the skills and mindset needed to positively impact the world.
At Riverwalk Academy, learning is driven by authentic experiences that integrate reading, writing, and research across all content areas. Students engage in projects that foster collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and strong self-management skills. Through our Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach, students explore challenging problems or essential questions aligned with the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards. This inquiry-based learning connects academic content to real-world contexts, while ensuring student voice and choice remain central to the process. Each PBL unit culminates in a Presentation of Learning (POL), where students showcase their growth, reflect on their learning journey, and demonstrate readiness for the challenges ahead.
Our technology-rich campus continues to support dynamic and engaging learning opportunities. Students in grades 1–12 have access to 1:1 Chromebooks, while kindergarten students use 1:1 iPads. Technology tools, including Google Classroom and the Google Suite, enable collaboration, research, and creativity — further enhancing our PBL experience and preparing students for a technology-driven world.
Riverwalk Academy is proud to continue our partnership with York Technical College in Rock Hill through our Immersive Dual Enrollment program. This early college pathway allows students in 11th and 12th grades to take primarily dual enrollment courses at York Tech, with many working toward an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or a technical certificate. Through this partnership, students have the opportunity to earn between 30 and 60 college credit hours — giving them a meaningful and measurable head start on their postsecondary goals.
To ensure every student thrives, Riverwalk Academy operates with the following Core Commitments:
- We commit to one another by fostering a productive environment built on collaboration, preparation, organization, accountability, and meaningful feedback.
- We commit to our students by treating each child with respect and fairness, and by investing fully in their individual needs and growth.
- We commit to our classroom communities by striving for successful outcomes through mutual trust and positive regard for all.
- We commit to our school by maintaining an environment where building strong relationships is valued, and where a "we are glad to be here" mindset is a daily reality.
- We commit to our families and surrounding communities by viewing them as essential partners who are vital to our students' success.
Riverwalk Academy's achievements reflect the collaborative efforts of students, families, staff, and community members — united by our shared belief in a student-centered, inquiry-driven, project-based learning model. As we look ahead, we remain confident that Riverwalk Academy students are developing the World Class Skills and life and career characteristics necessary to become successful, engaged citizens of South Carolina and beyond.
