Old Pointe Elementary School remains committed to developing the World Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate for every student we serve. Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, our dedicated faculty and staff worked intentionally to create engaging learning experiences where students were challenged academically, supported socially and emotionally, and empowered to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, creative problem-solvers, and collaborative leaders. Through a culture of continuous improvement, we remained focused on providing high-quality instruction while fostering meaningful relationships that support the success of every child.
During the 2025–2026 school year, all students continued to have access to technology that enhanced teaching and learning. Kindergarten students utilized iPads to provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences, while students in grades 1 through 5 continued using HP devices to support blended learning, collaboration, creativity, and active engagement across all content areas.
A major focus this year was strengthening literacy instruction through the continued implementation of LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling). The majority of our instructional staff successfully completed LETRS training, further deepening their understanding of the Science of Reading and strengthening their ability to deliver evidence-based literacy instruction. This professional learning has equipped teachers with research-based practices that support strong foundational reading skills and improved literacy outcomes for students.
Old Pointe also continued to strengthen instructional practices through a deliberate focus on engaging student learning experiences. Teachers refined their use of high-yield instructional strategies, increased opportunities for student collaboration and academic discourse, and intentionally designed lessons that promoted deeper thinking and active engagement. Professional learning emphasized rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while ensuring all students had meaningful access to grade-level content and opportunities to demonstrate their learning.
This year also marked the beginning of our renewed work with Leader in Me. Our Lighthouse Team partnered with our Leader in Me Coach to develop grade-level Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) and lead measures centered on improving math fluency. Students actively tracked their progress toward these goals, building ownership of their learning while developing leadership habits, responsibility, and accountability. This work established a strong foundation for continued implementation of student goal setting and leadership development across the school.
Supporting the whole child remained a priority throughout the year. Daily Morning Meetings continued schoolwide using the InFocus curriculum to strengthen students' social-emotional competencies and foster positive classroom communities. In addition, our teacher mentoring initiative paired identified students with caring staff members who provided encouragement, accountability, and meaningful support throughout the school year. These intentional relationships strengthened students' sense of belonging and reinforced the importance of positive adult connections within our school community.
Our Panther PRIDE initiative, representing Positive Attitude, Responsibility, Initiative, Determination, and Excellence, continued to serve as the foundation of our school culture. Students were recognized throughout the year for demonstrating these core values through classroom celebrations, quarterly recognition events, and schoolwide acknowledgments. These celebrations reinforced positive behaviors while fostering a safe, supportive, and unified learning environment where students were encouraged to grow both academically and personally.
Professional Learning Communities remained the driving force behind continuous instructional improvement. Teachers collaborated regularly to analyze student performance data, strengthen Tier 1 instruction, develop common assessments, and identify targeted interventions for students requiring additional support. Through collaborative planning and ongoing reflection, staff refined learning progressions, success criteria, and instructional practices to ensure every student had a clear pathway toward mastery. This collaborative approach allowed teachers to respond to student needs with timely interventions while maintaining high expectations for all learners.
As we look ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, Old Pointe Elementary remains committed to building upon the successes of this year by refining instructional practices, strengthening leadership opportunities for students, and creating exceptional learning experiences that inspire every child to reach their full potential. We are proud of the accomplishments achieved during the 2025–2026 school year and remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring every student learns, leads, and succeeds.
