Westcliffe Elementary is committed to helping all students develop the world-class skills and life characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We accomplish this by honoring our mission statement: “In cooperation with home and community, our school prepares students to be life-long learners and citizens of good character in an ever-changing world.” Ensuring that every student becomes a confident, capable, and lifelong learner remains the focus of our faculty and staff as we challenge students to reach their highest potential.
Westcliffe teachers continuously refine their instructional practices by implementing research-based strategies that promote student achievement and engagement. Our teachers utilize evidence-based literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading and supported by LETRS professional learning. In addition, teachers implement the Gradual Release of Responsibility model to provide students with the support and independence needed for successful learning. These instructional practices help maximize student growth and academic success.
To further support learning, Westcliffe provides a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Through collaborative problem-solving and data-driven instruction, we strive to meet the academic needs of every learner. We are proud of Westcliffe's long-standing tradition of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
In addition to strong academic programming, Westcliffe is dedicated to developing the whole child. We believe that character education, social-emotional growth, and physical well-being are essential components of student success. Through our school counseling program, students learn valuable life skills, explore future careers, and develop positive character traits such as respect, responsibility, perseverance, and integrity. Programs focused on health and wellness, including Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety, help students build important life skills while promoting safe and healthy choices. Teachers and staff reinforce these values daily by encouraging kindness, honesty, organization, personal responsibility, and service to others.
Westcliffe is grateful for the many community partnerships that enrich the educational experiences of our students. Partners including Trailer Source of Greenville, Greenville Federal Credit Union, South Carolina Children’s Theatre, Horace Mann Insurance, Waterstone Cottages, Public Education Partners, Greenville County Library, His Turn Soccer, Daughters of the American Revolution, Neighborhood Focus, ScanSource, and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office provide valuable support through literacy initiatives, mentoring opportunities, student programs, and community engagement activities. These partnerships have helped provide take-home books for students, support summer reading opportunities, sponsor school events, and expand enrichment experiences. This year, our partnership with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office provided fifth-grade students the opportunity to participate in the D.A.R.E. program, helping them develop decision-making and leadership skills.
At Westcliffe Elementary, we believe that schools, families, and communities share the responsibility of educating and supporting children. We are honored to serve our students and families and remain committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. By working together, we prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to become successful college, career, and life-ready graduates.
