"Our school is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by... ."
At Cheraw Intermediate School, our goal is to develop the minds, bodies, and character of our students. Throughout the year, we provided opportunities for students to engage in meaningful learning experiences in reading, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts. These carefully planned and coordinated activities supported academic growth while also fostering character development, maturity, and important life skills.
Professional development at CIS focused on strengthening instructional practices to ensure student success. Our reading teachers emphasized small-group instruction using diagnostic assessments, targeted reading strategies, and writing instruction, with a particular focus on decoding skills. Teachers participated in extensive professional learning centered on the reading and writing process, enabling them to identify reading deficiencies and implement effective interventions that promote accelerated student growth. As a result of these specialized trainings, teachers delivered engaging, rigorous, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
Cheraw Intermediate School continues to support and celebrate the arts through programs such as Art Club and Chorus. Students in both groups had opportunities to showcase their talents through performances and presentations within the community. Students also participated in a variety of art competitions, including the Cheraw Christmas Card Contest, the Jazz Festival Chalk Drawing Contest, and the district’s Superintendent’s Elementary Art Award competition. These experiences helped students develop teamwork, interpersonal skills, self-confidence, creativity, and self-discipline.
CIS is grateful for the outstanding support provided by our PTO Executive Board, parent volunteers, and community partners. Their dedication and commitment have played an essential role in supporting our students, staff, and school initiatives. We sincerely appreciate these partnerships and thank everyone for contributing to another successful school year.
