Whale Branch Elementary School, located in the Lowcountry, is a proud Title I rural school serving a diverse majority-minority student population. Our mission focuses on developing the South Carolina Graduate’s World-Class Skills and Life and Career Characteristics. We emphasize student engagement and teacher clarity, guided by research from John Hattie’s Visible Learning framework, to align lessons, objectives, and outcomes. This approach fosters productive classrooms, strong student-teacher relationships, and meaningful learning experiences.
Our STEAM-integrated curriculum, delivered through Med Tech 7 and Project Lead The Way, provides hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Students engage with innovative tools like the Z-Space Learning Lab and participate in weekly STEAM and arts-integrated lessons that build critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills—preparing them to connect their passions with real-world impact.
At Whale Branch, we continuously improve instruction using data from i-Ready, SC READY, and other assessments to inform teaching and provide tiered academic, social, and emotional support through our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Our Gifted and Talented and Multilanguage Learner programs further meet the unique needs of our diverse learners.
Our school understands the crucial role the overall school community plays in the success of our students. Parents, community members, and volunteers are not just welcomed at the school but are integral to our continuous improvement. We have thriving faith-based partnerships with Mount Carmel Baptist Church and other local churches in the local area, as well as generous donations and volunteer services from various organizations and businesses. These relationships have allowed our students to interact and communicate with a variety of professionals through various engaging learning experiences.
Whale Branch Elementary School is thankful for the continued support and encouragement provided by Beaufort County School District, local churches and businesses, and the entire Whale Branch community as we continue on our path to excellence.
