As Superintendent of York School District One, I am proud to reflect on the accomplishments of the 2025-2026 school year. This year was one of growth, innovation, and continuous improvement as we remained focused on providing every student with exceptional opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed. Guided by our Strategic Change Agenda 2022-2027, we continued building a district where high expectations, meaningful relationships, and student success remain at the center of every decision.
Our work throughout the year remained grounded in three strategic priorities:
- Create a challenging and supportive educational environment that ensures readiness for every student.
- Offer quality opportunities for continuous learning for students and staff that promote innovation and flexibility.
- Build leadership capacity at every level of the organization.
During the 2025-2026 school year, York School District One made significant strides in strengthening teaching and learning across every school. Our educators continued implementing our District Teaching and Learning Framework while engaging in extensive professional learning focused on instructional rigor, student engagement, standards-based instruction, formative assessment, meaningful feedback, and high-quality Tier I instruction. School leaders increased their focus on instructional leadership through classroom observations, coaching, and feedback designed to continuously improve the learning experiences of every student.
One of the most significant accomplishments of the year was laying the foundation for our district's transition to a Professional Learning Community beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. Throughout the year, district and school leaders invested in extensive learning, planning, and capacity building to prepare for this work. Leadership teams attended the PLC at Work Conference, schools developed collaborative structures, and educators began preparing to shift from working in isolation to working together through Teaching and Learning Teams with a shared commitment to improving outcomes for every child. This important work positioned our district for an exciting new chapter centered on collective responsibility, continuous improvement, and ensuring high levels of learning for all students.
We also continued strengthening the culture of our schools by investing in safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environments where students feel connected, valued, and challenged. We know that students achieve at higher levels when they experience strong relationships, high expectations, and a genuine sense of belonging. Throughout the year, our schools remained committed to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of every learner while creating environments where all students could thrive.
Beyond the classroom, York School District One experienced another year of tremendous progress. We continued investing in our facilities and planning for future growth, including the continued development of the Western York County Agricultural Arena, planning and construction for White Hill Middle School, and other long-term initiatives that will expand opportunities for students and strengthen our community for years to come. These investments reflect our commitment to providing learning environments that match the excellence we expect in our classrooms.
Our work continues to align with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by ensuring every student develops World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and the Life and Career Characteristics necessary to succeed in college, the military, the workforce, and beyond. Every initiative, every professional learning opportunity, every partnership, and every decision is centered on preparing students for successful futures.
None of this work happens without exceptional people. I am incredibly grateful for our dedicated teachers, principals, support staff, district leaders, Board of Trustees, families, and community partners who continually place students first. Their commitment, professionalism, and passion make York School District One stronger every day and continue to move our district forward.
As we reflect on another successful year, we celebrate the progress we have made while recognizing that excellence is never a destination—it is a continuous pursuit. The foundation built during the 2025-2026 school year has positioned York School District One for even greater success in the years ahead. Together, we remain committed to providing extraordinary opportunities for every student and ensuring that each graduate leaves our district prepared to lead, serve, and succeed in an ever-changing world.
