Rawlinson Road Middle School remains committed to educating the whole child by fostering academic excellence, social-emotional learning, creativity through the arts, and physical growth through athletics. Our goal is to nurture lifelong learners in an inclusive and challenging environment where every student feels valued, supported, and capable of success.
This year has been one of meaningful growth and positive momentum for our school community. We have continued to strengthen our instructional practices and deepen our connections with students and families. Through authentic, student-centered teaching, we empower students to take ownership of their learning. The workshop model of instruction, used across content areas, engages students in hands-on learning, promotes literacy in every subject, and helps them apply math in real-world contexts.
Our teachers work collaboratively in professional learning communities, using data analysis and instructional reflection to improve teaching practices. This commitment to professional growth is further supported by monthly staff development opportunities, ensuring that our educators continuously refine their craft. To meet the diverse needs of our learners, we provide targeted academic support through Tier 2 strategies and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), much of which is embedded in our daily enrichment period, Raider Time. This dedicated time allows us to offer both academic assistance and extension opportunities tailored to students’ individual needs. Student growth this year is reflected in our assessment data. We are encouraged by progress in key areas, particularly in 6th-grade Math and 8th-grade ELA, where MAP scores show encouraging gains.
Equally important as academic growth is the development of leadership and character. As a Leader in Me school, we equip students with essential life skills rooted in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. This leadership model, combined with our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, helps create a school culture where students understand and meet behavioral expectations. Our counselors and student services team provide additional support through character-building lessons, conflict resolution, and social-emotional skill development.
Beyond the classroom, students participate in extracurricular and enrichment opportunities. Weekly clubs during school hours allow students to explore their interests, while Academic Challenge, Beta Club, and our Student Light House Team provide leadership and academic growth beyond the regular school day. Our fine arts programs continue to shine, with the Raider Band, Orchestra, and Chorus earning Superior ratings at the Carowinds Festival of Music and the South Carolina Music Educators Association assessments. Our theater students also achieved remarkable success, earning 33 Superior ratings at the SC Junior Thespian Festival. Raider athletics offer competitive opportunities in football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, cheer, and softball, giving students a chance to develop teamwork and school spirit.
As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, we remain focused on improving student proficiency in Math and ELA, enhancing wellness and safety supports, and increasing meaningful family engagement. Through our collective efforts, we will continue to build a school where all students are empowered to learn, lead, and thrive.
