Sullivan Middle School is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and Dual Language Immersion School within Rock Hill School District Three. At Sullivan, faculty and staff cultivate a vibrant school culture that promotes academic excellence within a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. We strive to ensure that every student experiences a strong sense of belonging, engagement, and success. This is accomplished through inquiry-based, high-quality instruction designed around International Baccalaureate standards. Additionally, our Dual Language Immersion Program provides students with opportunities to develop proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in either Spanish or French.
As an IB MYP school, Sullivan fosters the development of the IB Learner Profile attributes, which closely align with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by promoting world-class knowledge, skills, and life and career characteristics. We celebrate and recognize students who demonstrate the qualities of being caring, reflective, principled, communicators, inquirers, open-minded, risk-takers, knowledgeable, thinkers, and balanced. In addition, Sullivan students participate in the Leader in Me process, embracing the belief that “Change Begins with Me” through positive choices and actions. Through these initiatives, we work to build students’ confidence, leadership capacity, and readiness for future success.
Beyond academics, Sullivan offers a wide range of extracurricular opportunities in athletics, visual and performing arts, community service, and special-interest activities both during and outside of school hours. Through organizations such as Junior Civitans, Beta Club, various honor societies, and the IB Community Project, Sullivan Falcons are encouraged to think globally while acting locally. We take pride in providing an educational experience that prepares students to be conscientious citizens who can thrive and compete in a 21st-century global society.
Sullivan’s mission is “Leading, Learning, and Growing Together.” We believe this mission is achieved by:
-
Fostering a safe and inclusive environment through meaningful relationships.
-
Sharing knowledge, ideas, and diverse perspectives and cultures.
-
Collaborating, encouraging, and inspiring one another in personal, social, emotional, and academic growth.
-
Leading with integrity by taking responsibility for our actions, lifelong learning, and professional and personal growth while holding ourselves and one another accountable.
The Sullivan community—faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders—supports this mission through a series of collective commitments. These commitments include:
• Engaging in effective collaboration within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to provide inquiry-based, engaging Tier I learning experiences grounded in identified essential standards and rigorous assessments aligned to both state standards and the IB curriculum.
• Providing differentiated and tiered instruction to ensure equitable access to learning and mastery of essential grade-level standards for all students.
• Promoting student agency and voice by empowering students to take ownership of their learning through goal-setting and participation in the Leader in Me framework.
• Regularly analyzing data within PLCs and collaborative teams to inform instructional practices, provide targeted support, and improve learning outcomes for all students.
• Engaging and equipping families and community stakeholders as partners in education by providing resources, strategies, and information that support student learning and personal growth beyond the classroom.
• Maintaining high academic expectations while prioritizing meaningful relationships that foster students’ social-emotional and behavioral well-being, ensuring that every student feels valued, understood, and empowered to learn.
• Engaging in open, honest, and professional dialogue to promote continuous learning, strengthen professional relationships, and effectively resolve conflict.
Sullivan faculty and staff remain committed to upholding these collective commitments to ensure success for every student.
An active School Improvement Council (SIC) and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) further strengthen Sullivan’s commitment to excellence. Both organizations serve as strong advocates for students and collaborate to maximize community partnerships that support academic achievement and social-emotional development. Through their efforts, the SIC and PTO provide valuable programs and opportunities that benefit teachers, students, and families alike.
These organizations actively support initiatives that enhance school climate and culture through events such as teacher appreciation activities, school dances, dodgeball tournaments, movie nights, and the Night of the Arts. Additionally, the SIC has focused on improving student achievement through collaborative partnerships and after-school tutoring opportunities. Sullivan Middle School greatly values the contributions of the SIC and PTO and appreciates their ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders, strengthen community connections, and promote a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.
Through rigorous instruction, meaningful relationships, leadership opportunities, and strong partnerships with families and the community, Sullivan Middle School empowers students to become confident, compassionate, and globally minded learners. As we continue to embrace our mission of “Leading, Learning, and Growing Together,” we remain dedicated to creating an environment where every student is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
