Sullivan Middle School is a Middle Years Programme International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Rock Hill School District 3. Sullivan Faculty and Staff celebrate a vibrant school culture that fosters academic excellence in a safe and inclusive environment; we strive for all of our students to feel a sense of belonging, engagement and success. This is accomplished through providing inquiry-based, high-quality lessons that are designed based on the International Baccalaureate standards, and our Dual Language Immersion Program enables our students to develop proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish or French.
As an IBMYP school, our students learn and develop the characteristics of the IB Learner profile, along with the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. We celebrate and honor our students for displaying the following characteristics: caring, reflective, principled, communicators, inquirers, open-minded, risk-takers, knowledgeable, thinkers, and balanced.
In addition to academics, Sullivan offers our students a plethora of extracurricular activities in athletics, visual and performing arts, and community service opportunities both inside and outside of school hours. Through Junior Civitans, Beta Club and the IB Project, Sullivan Falcons are encouraged to think globally and act locally. We pride ourselves on delivering an education that prepares our students to be conscientious citizens who can participate and compete in a 21st century global environment.
This past year, Sullivan entered the Leader in Me journey with faculty studying The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. A Faculty Lighthouse Team was established to lead analysis and reflection, and a student Lighthouse Team was selected to collaborate and lead the student movement for school improvement in the 2025-2026 school year. Through Leader in Me, Sullivan Falcons believe that "Change Begins with Me," and we look forward to growing our students' confidence and leadership skills for all to succeed.
Sullivan's mission is "Leading, Learning and Growing Together," and we believe that we achieve the mission through: 1:) fostering a safe and inclusive environment through building relationships; 2:) sharing knowledge, ideas, and exploring diverse perspectives and cultures; 3:) collaborating, encouraging, and inspiring each other in personal, social, emotional, and academic growth; and 4:) leading with integrity by taking responsibility for our actions, our life-long learning, and professional/personal growth by holding ourselves and each other accountable. Sullivan's Faculty, Staff, Students and Stakeholders achieve the mission and vision through a series of collective commitments. These commitments include:
- Engage in effective collaboration within our Professional Learning Communities to provide inquiry-based, engaging Tier 1 learning opportunities based on identified essential learnings and rigorous assessments aligned to state standards and IB curriculum.
- Provide students with differentiated and tiered instruction to ensure equitable access to learning and mastery of essential grade-level standards.
- Facilitate student agency and voice in the learning process, allowing students to take ownership of their education through goal-setting and the Leader in Me curriculum.
- Engage in regular data analysis with PLCs and teams to inform instructional practices, thereby ensuring targeted support and effective learning outcomes for all students.
- Engage and equip families and community stakeholders as partners in education with resources, strategies, and information to support and extend student learning and personal growth beyond the classroom.
- Maintain high academic expectations for all and prioritize building meaningful connections with students through fostering a supportive environment that nurtures their social-emotional and behavioral well-being to ensure that they feel valued, understood, and empowered to learn.
- Engage in open, honest and professional conversation to facilitate learning, develop professional relationships, and resolve conflict.
Sullivan Faculty and Staff are committed to upholding the commitments for the success of all.
Sullivan has an active School Improvement Council (SIC) and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Our SIC and PTO continuously advocate for our students and work together to maximize our community partnerships. They implement programs that support our teachers and create opportunities for all students to advance their academic performance and social-emotional wellbeing. Through the past year, our SIC and PTO worked to provide opportunities to improve Teacher and Student Climate through activities such as teacher socials, school dances, a dodgeball tournament, movie night and they supported our Night of the Arts. The SIC aimed to improve student academic scores through collaborative partnerships and after school tutoring support. Sullivan Middle School greatly appreciates and supports the SIC and PTO partners as they engage all stakeholders to promote a school culture built on high expectations and continuous improvement.
