Muller Road Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by empowering every student to achieve academic and personal success, preparing them to contribute to the advancement of our global community. Our motto for the 2024–2025 school year, "Raise the Bar," challenged students, staff, and families to strive for continuous growth, collective excellence, and an unmatched commitment to progress in all areas of middle school life.
Our mission aims to unite a diverse community and to empower and challenge all students in a safe, supportive, and rigorous environment, cultivating academic excellence and fostering social and emotional growth. Grounded in the Whole Child Framework, we focus on ensuring that every student is Challenged, Healthy, Engaged, Supported, and Safe. These foundational elements inform our daily practices, instructional design, and student supports, with the goal of preparing students to be future-ready. We remain aligned with the South Carolina Association for Middle Level Education’s pillars of academic excellence, social equity, developmental responsiveness, and organized systems, ensuring a student-centered approach across all grade levels.
In response to the evolving social and emotional needs of middle schoolers, we continued to implement innovative supports that reflect a developmentally responsive lens. Our Monday mindfulness sessions and daily affirmations led by counselors and administrators on the morning news continue to ground students in a positive mindset and prepare them for the week ahead. Our core values commonly referred to as BLISS: Behavior, Leadership, Involvement, Scholarship, and Service remain central to our school culture.
This year, we expanded our Muller Bucks store, a Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support which increased positive behavior recognitions for our students. We also refined our tiered recognition structure to motivate student achievement and growth. Our “Grades Right, Behavior Tight” quarterly celebrations and “Popsicles for Progress” benchmark growth incentives continued to increase student agency and effort. These initiatives were instrumental in helping us minimize the overall academic regression in comparison to previous years, as measured by growth and achievement metrics. Our advisory program played a critical role in these gains, offering targeted academic intervention and support four days a week. This approach ensured students had consistent touchpoints with each of their core academic teachers for remediation or enrichment.
As academic success remains a primary focus, we maintained robust opportunities for advancement and recovery. Our course recovery model continued to allow students the chance to restore two core course grades per quarter ensuring no student was left behind due to temporary academic setbacks. We also proudly offered five high school credit courses, English 1, Algebra 1, Geometry, Spanish 1, and Discovering Computer Science giving students early access to accelerated learning pathways.
Our Leadership Magnet Program, The Leadership Academy at Muller (LAM) continued to thrive under the leadership of Manet Schools of America’s 2024 National Magnet Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Emily Eberlin. Leadership students experienced a rigorous curriculum that blended state standards, Hirsch’s Core Knowledge, and real-world applications through field studies, extended day programming, and project-based learning.
Family and community engagement remained a cornerstone of our success this year. Our PTO and School Improvement Council made impactful contributions that supported both student experiences and teacher effectiveness. Our PTO raised over $30,000 again this year, with funds directly supporting fine arts, athletics, academic programming, and staff appreciation. Our School Improvement Council continued to develop tools for family engagement and resource access ensuring that our families are empowered partners in the academic journey of their children.
As we reflect on this school year, we are proud of the gains we’ve made. These efforts resulted in a stronger sense of community, improved student agency, and meaningful academic growth. We look forward to continuing to raise the bar as we build on our momentum and pursue excellence for every student.
