Alcorn Middle School strives to develop responsible citizens by providing all students with the knowledge and skills they need to compete on a global scale. We foster a student-centered, positive, healthy, and academically innovative school environment where students demonstrate self-efficacy, self-determination, and perseverance. Our students excel as critical thinkers and collaborators, equipped to meet future challenges.
AMS offers rigorous academic experiences through programs such as Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID), Performing Arts, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Robotics Courses, and the Comprehensive Remediation Afterschool Program. These programs offer individualized instructional strategies, research-based interventions, meaningful enrichment opportunities, and relevant life skills experiences. Our goal is to equip all Knights with the tools needed to succeed academically, socially, and professionally.
Our positive learning environment promotes academic excellence, student engagement, and social-emotional learning. Our dedicated and highly qualified staff supports students and fosters a positive atmosphere conducive to growth. Collaboration is key to our success. Teachers, instructional support staff, and administrators actively participate in district and state professional development to enhance classroom practices. They work together in content-level and grade-level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student achievement data, develop interventions, set goals, and share instructional strategies. PLCs foster continuous professional growth, ensuring that our educators are equipped to prepare students with college- and career-ready skills.
Students are encouraged to take active roles in their learning and leadership development. Opportunities include student leadership summits, AVID student ambassadors, extracurricular activities, and daily student-led inspirational sessions. The student council fosters leadership through organizing school events and service projects. Additionally, school-based mentoring groups emphasize self-efficacy, healthy relationships, career exploration, and essential soft skills to prepare scholars as world-class citizens.
Data-driven decision-making is practiced to enhance students’ skill mastery outcomes. Interactive town hall sessions with the principal and administrators allow students and stakeholders to review individual and school-wide performance data on assessments such as STAR Reading/Math and SC Ready. These sessions are held during and after school, promoting transparency and collective understanding.
We take pride in the accomplishments of our students, staff, and the support from families and the community. Our mission is to produce college and career-ready, socially adapted, responsible world-class citizens committed to being lifelong learners.
