At Southeast Middle School, we are committed to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment that prioritizes student attendance, academic achievement, and responsible behavior. Guided by our motto, "Every Child, Every Day," we continue to strive for excellence and growth in all areas of student development.
During the 2024–2025 school year, students participated in the universal screening for Reading and Math through the Renaissance STAR Assessment. While not all students reached their individual growth targets, we experienced significant school-wide academic growth. Students were encouraged to set personal goals, and those who met or exceeded their targets were recognized and celebrated for their accomplishments.
Southeast Middle is proud to be an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) school. The IB MYP is a rigorous academic framework that challenges students to make meaningful connections between their studies and real-world applications. This year, teachers integrated the IB Learner Profile and philosophy into daily instruction, helping students develop as creative, critical, and reflective thinkers.
All certified teachers created and implemented instructional unit plans aligned with Richland County School District One (RCSD1) curriculum standards and pacing guides. In addition, student data conferences were conducted to help students understand their academic performance and growth expectations.
Our School Counselors and teachers addressed students' Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) needs through classroom lessons, small groups, and individualized support. We also used Mastery Connect to administer common formative assessments, monitor student progress, and identify students in need of targeted interventions. Through Deep Data Dive conferences, we analyzed strengths and areas for improvement, allowing us to create effective academic action plans.
Leadership development continued through two key student organizations: the Young Men Leadership Alliance and Young Ladies of Essence. These groups provided enriching opportunities for students to build character and leadership skills outside the traditional classroom. Additionally, all students were encouraged to engage in community service projects, fostering civic responsibility and empathy.
Social Emotional Learning will remain a focus for students, parents, and staff. With support from our School Counselors and Parent Engagement Specialist, we will continue to implement programs and initiatives that positively impact behavior, achievement, and attendance.
At Southeast Middle, we are unwavering in our commitment to educating the whole child and supporting our faculty and staff in achieving school-wide success. Together, we will continue to grow and excel—every child, every day.
