Since opening its doors in 1956, John W. Moore Middle School has proudly upheld a tradition of academic excellence and innovation. As a thriving Title I institution serving approximately 1,100 sixth through eighth grade students, Moore is committed to equipping young scholars with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving global society.
At Moore, we are cultivating the world-class skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate:
-
Empowering students through critical thinking, hands-on exploration, and project-based learning;
-
Inspiring curiosity and creativity by fostering inquiry-driven and reflective learning experiences;
-
Encouraging goal-setting and self-discipline through action planning and academic ownership;
-
Prioritizing rigorous, standards-based instruction across all content areas.
Our instructional approach is anchored by high expectations and a relentless focus on academic growth through our signature initiative, D.E.N. T.I.M.E. (Doing Everything Necessary - Targeted Instruction Moving Everyone). This schoolwide framework integrates targeted remediation, reteaching, and enrichment—both during scheduled intervention periods and within daily classroom instruction—to ensure mastery and success for every student.
Through our 1:1 Chromebook initiative, students engage in digital learning that enhances collaboration, creativity, and critical problem-solving. Our integration of Virtual Reality (VR) technology further elevates engagement by offering immersive, interactive experiences that bring curriculum content to life.
Teachers collaborate regularly in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to examine real-time student work, analyze data, and refine instruction. These collaborative sessions drive intentional planning around remediation and acceleration, ensuring instruction is personalized and impactful.
Moore Middle School’s STEAM program is a cornerstone of our academic offerings. Students explore an array of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses, including App Creators, Automation and Robotics, Computer Science for Innovators, Flight and Space, Green Architecture, and Medical Detectives. These courses expose students to real-world applications in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while our extensive fine arts program—featuring band, orchestra, chorus, piano, guitar, pottery, 2D and 3D art, and theater—nurtures creativity and self-expression.
Beyond the classroom, students develop leadership and soft skills through a vibrant selection of clubs and athletics, such as Student Council, Academic Challenge Team, Theater Club, Yearbook, Photography Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Our athletic program boasts recent achievements, including a 2024 City Championship in football and back-to-back Regional Cheerleading Championships. Our band program earned the Superior Rating at both the SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment and the Carowinds Music Festival, as well as the Outstanding Performance Award—the highest honor awarded to band programs in South Carolina.
We believe that strong family and community engagement is essential to student success. Parents are invited to actively participate in our Association of Parents and Teachers (APT) and School Improvement Council (SIC). Throughout the year, we host a variety of parent workshops and family events designed to strengthen partnerships and support learning at home.
At Moore Middle School, we remain deeply committed to our mission and proud of the legacy we continue to build. Together with our families and community, we strive for “Excellence Every Day, the Moore Way!”
