Henry L. Sneed Middle School began its mission of educating children in 1994. Since its inception, faculty and staff have continued its commitment to provide a standards-based, student-centered education for a life of opportunity, building confidence through kindness and encouragement with a relentless focus on personal grown. Sneed Middle School is a Title I school that serves approximately 700 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students.

We are committed to providing a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that prepares all students for future success. To support this mission, we have implemented Performance-Based Objectives (PBOs) within our instructional framework to ensure that teaching and learning are standards-aligned, rigorous, and focused on mastery. This approach helps students develop a deeper understanding of content and promotes increased academic achievement across all subject areas.
To strengthen communication and transparency with families, Grade-Level and Departmental Newsletters are included in the Sneed Spotlight, our weekly school newsletter. These communications provide parents with timely information regarding curriculum, instructional goals, student achievements, and upcoming events.
Through our 1:1 Chromebook initiative, students have daily access to technology that enhances learning through collaboration, creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving. Students regularly utilize digital platforms that extend classroom instruction and provide personalized learning opportunities. Additionally, teachers and students have access to Virtual Reality (VR) technology, which brings learning to life through immersive experiences that increase engagement, accessibility, and real-world connections.
Our teachers participate in collaborative Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) where they analyze authentic, real-time student work, examine assessment data, and share instructional best practices. Through a structured data-analysis protocol, teachers identify student needs and develop targeted plans for remediation, intervention, enrichment, and acceleration to ensure every learner is supported.
In Spring 2026, Sneed Middle School opened a state-of-the-art mobile STEM Center through a partnership with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and Otis Elevator. This innovative learning space expands opportunities for hands-on, project-based learning and career exploration. Our STEM program features an extensive array of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses, including App Creators, Automation and Robotics, Computer Science for Innovators and Makers, Design and Modeling, Flight and Space, Green Architecture, and Medical Detectives. These courses provide students with authentic opportunities to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Beyond STEM, students benefit from a comprehensive selection of arts and elective courses designed to foster creativity, innovation, and personal growth. Offerings include Career Exploration, Choral Music, Band, Guitar, Orchestra, Piano, Digital Art, Visual Art, Health, Physical Education, and World Language. These experiences allow students to discover and develop their talents while strengthening communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Leadership development and character education are integral components of the Sneed experience. Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of clubs and organizations, including Academic Challenge Team, Art Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Beta Club, Pearls With Purpose, Sneed's Gentlemen League, Student Government Association, and Yearbook Club. Students may also participate in numerous athletic programs, including Competitive Cheer, Cross Country, Basketball, Baseball, Football, Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball.
Our fine arts programs continue to excel at the local and state levels. During the 2025–2026 school year, the Sneed Band Program earned Superior with Distinction ratings at the South Carolina Band Directors Association Concert Performance Assessment, South Carolina Band Directors Association Jazz Performance Assessment, Carowinds Music Festival, and Southern Star Music Festival. The program also received the prestigious Outstanding Performance Award, the highest honor a band program can achieve in the state of South Carolina. The Carolina Squires Honor Chorale earned a rating of Excellent at the South Carolina Music Educators Association Choral Performance Assessment. The Sneed Advanced Orchestra earned a rating of Excellent at the South Carolina Music Educators Association Orchestra Performance Assessment.
We recognize that parent and family engagement is essential to student success. Families are encouraged to participate in our booster clubs, parent workshops, and family engagement events that foster collaboration, strengthen partnerships, and support student learning.
