Merriwether Middle School, located in North Augusta, South Carolina, is dedicated to fostering excellence by engaging, empowering, and enriching the lives of our students through a diverse range of programs and courses. Our school proudly serves a vibrant community committed to academic achievement, personal growth, and strong family values.
At Merriwether, we offer a comprehensive curriculum aligned with State Standards, designed to equip students with world-class skills and career-ready characteristics as outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our academic programs include core subjects enhanced by specialized courses such as German I and ProTeam, as well as innovative STEM opportunities through our Project Lead the Way program. This program allows students to explore robotics and participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math competitions, preparing them for the demands of an increasingly interconnected world.
We recognize the importance of meeting each student's unique needs through personalized learning experiences. Programs like Read 180 help close literacy gaps by combining technology, group instruction, and direct teaching. Our daily advisory meetings focus on strengthening math skills, and enrichment opportunities such as the “Ignite” program during school breaks further support academic progress.
Merriwether is proud to provide Chromebooks to all students, ensuring access to technology throughout their educational journey. Our Inquiry Innovators create authentic learning experiences that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world application of skills.
Beyond academics, Merriwether offers a rich variety of extracurricular activities that foster well-rounded development. Students can participate in athletics—including volleyball, soccer, football, cheerleading, and basketball—and join numerous clubs such as Beta Club, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Mock Trial, and Yearbook Staff. We also value connections across grade levels, with opportunities for middle school students to engage with younger peers from Merriwether Elementary through reading, holiday activities, and community events.
Our school culture promotes the Mustang Way, encouraging students to be punctual, respectful, responsible, and committed to excellence. The Student of the Month Program recognizes those who exemplify these values both academically and behaviorally.
The arts thrive at Merriwether, where many students participate in drama, band, chorus, and honor choir. Our two annual concerts and district Fine Arts Festival celebrate their talents, alongside the Mustangs on Parade talent show. This year, we implemented an Advanced Art class, showcasing our commitment to academic excellence and student leadership.
Merriwether’s strong partnership with families and the community is supported by an active PTO and School Improvement Council that organizes events, supports teachers, and fosters a family-like atmosphere. This collaborative spirit is essential to our open-door policy and shared mission to maximize student achievement.
As Merriwether Middle School continues to grow in both size and heart, we invite all students, families, educators, and community members to join our Mustang family. Together, we are building a supportive, inspiring environment where every learner can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
