Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing our students with an integrated curriculum that develops maximum academic potential through creative expression and exploration of the arts. At Rollings Middle School of the Arts (RMSA), we believe that true excellence comes from a fusion of academic rigor and artistic creativity. We are proud to offer a one-of-a-kind experience where middle school students can discover and develop both their intellect and their imagination.
RMSA is home to approximately 800 talented students in grades six through eight. Admission is selective—every student completes an application and auditions for placement in one of our seven core art areas: strings, piano, theater arts, visual arts, band, dance, and vocal music. This ensures our campus is full of young artists who are passionate, motivated, and ready to shine.
Our state-of-the-art facility matches the excellence of our students. With cutting-edge science labs, collaborative learning spaces, and a top-tier performing arts center—built through a partnership between MeadWestvaco Corporation, Dorchester School District Two, and the Summerville community—our campus is a space where innovation meets inspiration.
We're thrilled to share that our 2023–2024 School Report Card rating is EXCELLENT, meaning RMSA “substantially exceeds” expectations in preparing all students to meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. The school climate rating also reflects this success: 93.9% of parents are satisfied with the learning environment, and 87.8% are happy with the social and physical environment.
RMSA is committed to building world-class skills for college and career readiness. Our academic program includes rigorous instruction in language arts and mathematics, with high school credit courses in English 1 Honors, Algebra 1 Honors, Geometry, and Spanish 1. Eighth-grade students also earn high school credit for their arts core, reinforcing our belief in the power of arts education as a vehicle for lifelong learning.
Creativity thrives here. Our students compose music, choreograph dances, and design original visual art. They also explore modern tools—creating animations, films, digital compositions, and more—enhancing their media literacy and technological fluency. Meanwhile, critical thinking takes center stage as students analyze performances and reflect on their growth.
Beyond the classroom, RMSA is shaping compassionate, resilient leaders. Through our leadership programs, students build integrity, practice perseverance, and learn to value diverse perspectives—skills essential for success in any path they choose.
Our school is a proud recipient of national and state accolades. In 2020, we were honored as a National Blue Ribbon School. In 2024, our exceptional counseling department earned the prestigious RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) designation from the American School Counselor Association.
