Latta Middle School is committed to helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We achieve this by providing rigorous instruction aligned with the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards, along with a wide range of opportunities in fine arts, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), athletics, and various clubs and extracurricular activities.
Students in grades seven and eight have the opportunity to earn high school credit in Computer Science. Eighth-grade students may also earn credit in Algebra I and English I. By earning these early credits, students gain the flexibility to focus on specialized subjects and internships in high school that support their career goals.
Our 1:1 technology initiative, the Viking Technology Academy, ensures every student has access to a Chromebook. This technology enhances classroom instruction and helps students stay current with the digital demands of today’s world.
Latta Middle School’s STEM initiative features courses designed to spark student interest and build essential skills. Through Project Lead the Way, students explore classes like Medical Detectives, Design & Modeling, and Automation & Robotics. These courses not only teach technical knowledge but also emphasize skills that are critical for success in the modern workforce.
To support a positive school climate, Latta Middle School continues to implement PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). By recognizing and celebrating positive behavior daily, quarterly, and yearly, we work to reduce negative behaviors, strengthen school culture, and reinforce the life and career characteristics that contribute to student success.
Latta Middle School takes pride in its caring community, dedicated alumni, supportive families, and outstanding teachers and staff. We remain focused on creating a student-centered environment where learners are encouraged to strive for excellence and prepare to become the innovative leaders of tomorrow. Our success is made possible by the strong partnership between our school and the greater Latta community.
