McBee High School focuses on “Creating a Future for Students” by emphasizing excellence in Athletics, Arts, and Academics through a commitment to help ALL students achieve the profile of the South Carolina Graduate with world class knowledge and skills, along with life and career characteristics. Our mission is to cultivate a future for all students by encouraging self-discipline and rigor, developing habits of lifelong learners, and giving students the tools needed to overcome any challenge in partnership with their parents, our community, local businesses, and institutions of higher learning. We are proud to say our graduation rate was 94%!
Our curriculum and instruction are rigorous, relevant, and aligned with the S.C. College and Career Ready Standards with a wide range of course offerings through a master schedule that effectively and efficiently provides all students with a diverse range of opportunities. The school fosters a respectful, safe, and orderly learning environment where pathways are valued and aligned with students’ Individualized Growth Plans. Our FFA program continually achieves “Gold” level of certification and is recognized as one of the premier Agricultural Education programs across the state, while also participating in national level events. The program boasts several national award winners in public speaking and advocating for agriculture. Ninety-seven percent of our graduating seniors are recognized as “College and/or Career Ready” through meeting or exceeding state guidelines for this recognition. The school’s Career and Technology Education program includes specializations in Agriculture, Health Sciences, Emergency Medical Services, EMS, and Business. Many students take dual enrollment courses through a partnership with Northeastern Technical College, which includes Associate degree programs and technical/trade skills programs such as Welding, CDL courses, and Forklift certification courses with stackable credentials. The school also offers a first-class Teacher Cadet program to help recruit and retain students into the teaching profession.
The Fine Arts curriculum is rigorous and exceeds state and national standards while widening our student’s perspectives and appreciation. The school supports, recognizes, and celebrates student creativity and student achievement is celebrated in the news media as well as online. Awards ceremonies and banquets are held to recognize excellence. Fine arts completers are honored at a district-sponsored luncheon each year. The faculty guides student achievement to reflect growth as artists and musicians and continually strives to increase the number of fine arts completers. McBee High School’s “Spirit of McBee” band continues to be one of the top marching bands in the state, making the state competition again this year. Individual students annually place in the regional band competition and at the state level. The school has a first-class arts program for students in grades 6-12, which routinely produces several contest winners in county and regional competitions.
Our athletics department has achieved great success and focuses on creating a culture of high expectations both on and off the competition field. Our coaches provide practice structures that leverage time on task and reinforce positive expectations. Game day expectations are centered around unity, school attendance, and maximized time in class. Coaches provide academic support through progress monitoring. The athletic department leverages relationships with community partners to maximize resources for the betterment of all programs. Our football program has consistently played several rounds in the playoffs each year, volleyball consistently challenges for a conference championship, girls’ basketball went to the 3rd round of the playoffs in 2024-25, softball is extremely competitive and made an appearance in the Upper state finals. McBee High School has seen individual state championships in powerlifting and boys golf, and our baseball program has won its fifth state championship this year. Our student-athletes have demonstrated hard work, determination, and sportsmanship as they represented our school, making this a very successful outgrowth of our classroom experience.
McBee High is one of the top schools in Chesterfield County, the Pee Dee region, and in the state of South Carolina. The accomplishments mentioned above are indicative of dedicated teachers, staff, and coaches’ commitment to positively influencing the lives of our students. It is further indicative of students and parents joining teachers in this team effort to ensure the success of ALL students.
