At Charleston Development Academy Public Charter School (CDA), we are dedicated to nurturing well-rounded scholars who exemplify the World Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our instructional philosophy centers on the Four Cs—critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity—to ensure students are prepared for success in a dynamic, global society.
Recognizing the vital role of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) in 21st-century education, CDA integrates innovative teaching practices, modern resources, and research-based strategies that inspire curiosity and meaningful engagement. Through interdisciplinary instruction, our students connect academic content to real-world contexts, deepening their understanding and enthusiasm for learning.
Utilizing a master instructional model and a strong emphasis on project-based learning, our scholars engage in complex problem-solving, design thinking, and hands-on experimentation. From building prototypes to presenting solutions, they actively participate in both the engineering and scientific processes—developing essential skills for college and career readiness.
CDA’s Advanced Study Program provides middle school students with early exposure to high school-level coursework. By the end of eighth grade, many scholars have earned two or more high school credits, giving them a strong academic advantage as they transition to high school.
To ensure every student reaches grade-level proficiency in reading, CDA offers comprehensive support during the school day and through our extended learning programs. We employ adaptive, web-based tools to assess individual needs and deliver targeted interventions that build both literacy and confidence.
At CDA, our mission remains clear and unwavering:
“An Intellect Construction Enterprise—Developing Minds, Building Character, Engineering Futures.”
Here, excellence isn’t just what we strive for—it’s who we are.
