At Jerry Zucker Middle School of Science, we are proud to support scholars and their families in developing the academic and personal skills necessary for college and career readiness, as outlined in the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate. Serving the North Charleston community, we offer both a zoned school program and a partial science magnet program designed to provide rigorous instruction in all core academic areas, while offering unique exploratory opportunities that foster curiosity and creativity.
Our scholars can earn high school credit in Honors English I, Honors Algebra I, Honors Biology I, Spanish I, and Discovering Computer Science, providing them with a strong foundation for future success. To meet the needs of all learners, we provide a multi-tiered system of support for scholars who need additional help with literacy and numeracy. These supports include intervention exploratory classes, push-in instructional supports, and flex periods that combine digital learning platforms with direct, targeted instruction.
We believe that academic excellence must be paired with strong character development. Our comprehensive character education program, based on the Second Step curriculum and Restorative Practices, equips students with essential life skills, including perseverance, empathy, accountability, and self-regulation.
Understanding that today’s scholars are tomorrow’s global citizens, we are committed to developing the whole child. Through partnerships with the Charleston County Department of Mental Health, MUSC Mental Health, and Communities In Schools, we ensure that social and emotional well-being remains a top priority. We also foster strong family engagement through events such as Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, family book clubs, volunteer opportunities, and a variety of after-hours programs designed to bring our community together.
In addition, we are proud of the robust partnerships we’ve established with local businesses, faith-based organizations, civic groups, and Joint Base Charleston. These collaborations provide our scholars with real-world experiences and support our vision of producing world-class learners. Our growing STEAM program, which includes a dedicated STEAM teacher/coach and a fully equipped STEAM Maker Space, further embeds innovation, creativity, and critical thinking across all disciplines.
At Zucker, we believe in the limitless potential of every scholar. Our decisions are driven by a commitment to rigorous instruction, meaningful relationships, and equitable support systems that cater to the diverse needs of all learners. It is our honor to serve this community every day, and we look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships between school and home.
Together, we will continue to fulfill our mission:
“Every Student, Every Day—No Exceptions, No Excuses.”
