At Moultrie Middle School, our dedicated and talented faculty and staff remain committed to ensuring that every student develops essential skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Rooted in the world-class competencies outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, Moultrie continues to uphold its proud tradition of excellence across academics, the arts, athletics, and social-emotional learning.
For the second consecutive year, Moultrie earned the distinction of being the highest-performing neighborhood middle school in the district—a reflection of our unwavering focus on instructional quality. Teachers challenge students through rigorous, differentiated lessons designed to meet the diverse learning needs of their students. Our instructional emphasis on collaboration and student engagement contributed to meaningful growth and achievement gains during the 2024–2025 school year, as demonstrated by MAP scores and other formative assessments.
To advance the district’s literacy initiative, we enhanced our reading support efforts by introducing targeted enrichment and intervention classes, embedding additional instructional support during the school day, and refining our Tier 1 instructional practices. These efforts, coupled with the perseverance of our students and educators, helped drive measurable progress in student outcomes.
Moultrie educators hold high expectations and are deeply committed to educating the whole child. Through a focus on building confidence, communication, and self-advocacy skills, students grow both academically and personally. A schoolwide assembly early in the year reinforced our collective commitment to unity, kindness, and respect.
We are proud of our ongoing community partnerships that enrich the student experience. The "Be A Mentor" program continued to make a positive impact by connecting students with caring adult role models. Leadership initiatives, such as Women In Charge and our Student Advisory Committee, helped cultivate a strong sense of purpose and student voice throughout the school.
In addition to strong core academic offerings, Moultrie provides a diverse selection of courses that foster 21st-century skills. These include advanced art, jazz band, medical detectives, green architecture, flight and space, app creation, and automation and robotics. Students also have the opportunity to earn high school credit in courses such as Algebra 1, Geometry, English 1, Spanish 1, French 1, and Discovering Computer Science Parts 1 & 2.
A wide range of extracurricular activities supports student engagement beyond the classroom. Popular clubs, such as chess, cooking, gardening, student government, quiz bowl, news team, Junior Beta Club, and the milkshake club, enable students to pursue their personal interests and foster a sense of community. Moultrie has many student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and sports such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, baseball, and golf.
Our performing arts programs continue to be a source of pride. This year, our band, orchestra, and chorus each earned Superior with Distinction ratings across grades 6–8. Moultrie’s band also received the prestigious SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award—South Carolina’s highest honor for middle school bands.
At the heart of our school culture is a commitment to character and community. Students participated in school-wide initiatives, including Autism Awareness Week, World Kindness Day, Anti-Bullying Week, and Unity Day. Service learning was alive and well, with students supporting organizations such as Toys for Tots, the Lowcountry Food Bank, Pet Helpers, the Charleston Promise Neighborhood, the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Association, and the U.S. Armed Forces.
The accomplishments of this past year reflect the strength of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the unwavering support of our families and community. We are proud to call ourselves Patriots.
