New Ellenton Middle STEAM Magnet School is a school of academic excellence that fosters student achievement through innovative teaching practices, community relationships, and developing well-rounded citizens. Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by fostering a learning environment rooted in innovation, collaboration, and high expectations. As a STEAM magnet school, we integrate science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics across the curriculum. We aim to engage students in critical thinking and real-world problem solving through project-based learning and inquiry-driven instruction. Our students are encouraged to ask questions, explore creative solutions, and work collaboratively to develop academic mastery and excel in a global society.
Our educators use high-quality instructional materials, programs, and strategies such as differentiation and small-group instruction to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. Teachers also focus on the quality of the learning environment by providing students opportunities to collaborate, give and receive feedback, and monitor their progress toward the learning target. Teachers collaborate weekly in Professional Learning Communities to plan transdisciplinary STEAM-based projects, address students’ academic and behavioral needs, evaluate instructional practices, and plan professional development. Teachers meet quarterly by content with administrators and district content support specialists to analyze and disaggregate assessment data, review standards and pacing guides, and plan next steps.
Our surrounding community partners with the school regularly to serve as student mentors and tutors and to provide engaging STEAM-focused presentations. Members of our school community volunteer in classrooms and school events, deliver donations, and connect us with resources, all to the betterment of students.
