At Leavelle McCampbell Middle School, we are deeply committed to empowering each student to develop the exceptional skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our school vision, Living, Leading, and Leaving a Legacy, drives every decision and action we take. Through our Leader in Me framework and theme, Leading Every Growth Opportunity - LEGO, we prioritize personalized learning, service, and leadership within a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Our students are challenged to grow academically, socially, and emotionally—uncovering their unique gifts and learning to use them to impact others. As a school with more than 100 years of history, we continue to build on our legacy of excellence, ensuring every student is prepared to succeed in school, life, and future careers.
Life and Character Skills:
At Leavelle McCampbell, developing strong character and leadership remains central to our mission. Serving a diverse population of over 540 students, we continue to implement intentional systems to support growth in leadership, self-discipline, and student ownership. We are proud to be the first Leader in Me Lighthouse School in Aiken County—an achievement that reflects our commitment to empowering students with the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and providing daily leadership opportunities through advisory, classroom responsibilities, and extracurricular programs.
This year, we were honored to be recognized as an official Kindness Certified School by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. This recognition reflects our focus on creating a culture of kindness, empathy, and inclusion.
Students have actively led and participated in clubs, service projects, and school-wide initiatives such as food drives, campus beautification, and peer mentoring. Our extracurriculars continue to thrive, offering opportunities in athletics (football, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading), students also have the chance to participate in Midland Valley High School athletics, fine arts (art, ceramics, band and chorus), and academic honors organizations (Beta Club and Student Council), Student Lighthouse, career guidance, Pretty Girls Rock Club, J2S Ambassadors, Battle of the Books, Builders Club, and school dances. Celebrations like ROCK Rubric recognition events, Lunch & Learns, and LEGO Moments help reinforce our focus on personal growth and student excellence.
World-Class Knowledge and Skills:
Our instructional program is rooted in providing rigorous and relevant curriculum aligned with state standards. Through the addition of a Teaching and Learning Coach, we have significantly strengthened our professional learning systems. This year, our teachers engaged in Diane Sweeney’s Student-Centered Coaching Cycles and Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Practices, giving them targeted support to make data-driven decisions and refine instruction based on individual student needs.
Teachers met regularly in professional learning communities (PLCs) to collaborate, analyze student data, and build effective, differentiated lessons. We also provided ongoing support from district curriculum support specialists in instructional best practices, data analysis, text-dependent writing, and intervention strategies. These intentional practices ensure that every student receives meaningful instruction at their level, with appropriate supports to accelerate growth.
Advanced coursework remains a hallmark of our academic offerings, with students having the opportunity to earn high school credit in Honors English 1, Honors Geometry, and Fundamentals of Computing. Active Learning continues to be a schoolwide strategy that fosters student engagement, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Additionally, we continue to strengthen our partnerships with parents and local organizations. From community mentorship programs to volunteer support and PTO & SIC leadership, our stakeholders are key partners in student success.
As we look to the future, we are committed to closing achievement gaps and increasing reading, math, and science proficiency through high-quality instruction, meaningful relationships, and a relentless focus on helping students meet and exceed the demands of the future South Carolina workforce.
