Broome High School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by ensuring that they are exposed to the four Cs - critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Whether in academics, athletics, fine arts or community service, our students, teachers, administrators, Board of Trustees and our community work together to continue to create a unified culture of excellence. With our students at the center of all that we do, we have embraced our guiding principle of “ALL IN. Every Child, Every Day- Whatever It Takes”.
Broome High School experienced another year of growth and success during the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Janet Linder was recognized as our teacher of the year. With the implementation of AVID, we introduced these strategies: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR). Broome High School was the first high school in Spartanburg County to implement the AVID program. We continue to focus on increased rigor at BHS by adding additional AP courses and increasing the number of students taking AP courses. In addition to AP we have dramatically increase the number of dual credit classes offered to our students through Spartanburg Community College. Eight classes per semester are offered on our campus by SCC. Our students may also take dual credit classes on college campuses or virtually.
The Class of 2025 earned over $7 million in scholarship awards. Broome High School students earned credit in college-level courses through Advanced Placement and Dual Credit. Broome students also attend Daniel Morgan Technology Center (DMTC) where they are able to earn industry certifications and college credit. Participation in a rigorous curriculum ensures that our students are College and Career Ready.
Other successes this year include: Continued an on-time graduation rate of 89%, increased our career ready number of graduates, improved our US History EOC passage rate, increased athletic participation, marching band qualified to compete in the state championships for the second consecutive year and one JROTC cadets earned placement in the Air Force Flight School.
Community Service is very important to Broome students and staff. We were recognized for our service activities. Our school participated in many projects including flood relief efforts, food pantry donations, Christmas Child sponsorships, Relay for Life, and The United Way.
Broome staff, students, and SIC worked together to achieve a major shift in innovation with the creation and implementation of Centurion Flex. This intentional portion of our daily schedule focuses on giving students and teachers dedicated time to cooperate on academics and facilitate positive relationships inside and out of the class by allowing students to get help, mentoring, make up work and join clubs and activities. Centurions Flex and AVID initiatives increased student engagement, increased student achievement, reduced the number of disciplinary infractions and course failures, and helped improve our graduation rate.
Broome High School is synonymous with excellence. We seek to be ever-changing and ever-improving in order to meet the needs of all students.
