Dreher High School is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate by demonstrating high levels of achievement in academics, arts, athletics, and service at the local, state, and national levels. Over 90% of the faculty have advanced degrees beyond the undergraduate level. US News and World Report recognized Dreher among “America’s Best High Schools,” rating our school as the #1 high school in Richland One, #3 in the Midlands, and #14 in South Carolina. Our school is one of the first high schools in our state designated as an AP Capstone Diploma Program School, and the College Board named Dreher a Silver AP Honor Roll School in 2024. Dreher’s tradition continues to build on the high standards it demands in academics, arts, athletics, and activities.
Academic offerings include over 24 AP courses with passage rates significantly above the national average, as well as 6 engineering courses in our Project Lead the Way program. Other CTE opportunities include the Richland One Heyward Career Center programs, our Business Finance completer courses, and Teacher Cadet. The Chinese program, first pioneered at Dreher, continues to flourish, as well as our entire world languages program. Multiple students passed state and national language exams not only in Chinese but also in French, German, Latin, and Spanish. In the 2025-2026 school year, Dreher will introduce Language Immersion programs in Spanish and Chinese. The accomplishments of our fine arts students continue to be a source of great pride for the school and the community. Our Marching Band won the 3A Lower State Championship this year and finished Runner-up in the 3A State Championship.
Additionally, the Dreher Band, Dreher Chorus, and Dreher Orchestra received the highest possible rating, Superior, from the SC Music Educators Association, with dozens of students recognized as honors, all-region, and all-state performers. Our Dreher Theatre students, again, earned numerous superior ratings for ensemble and solo performances. The Dreher Dance Company continues to be recognized as one of the best in the state, and 14 of the 16 slots for All-State Guitar went to Dreher students.
With numerous sports, clubs, and activities, Dreher offers students opportunities to explore their interests and participate in a wide range of local, state, and national events. We added Esports as a competitive team, with all teams finishing in the top 10 in the state. Dreher’s commitment to the community includes student work with Prisma Health, the American Cancer Society, the MS Walk, Families Helping Families, Harvest Hope, the American Red Cross, the Blood Connection, the Breast Cancer Society, the United Way, 100 Black Men, the Backpack Weekend Program, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Artists for Africa Project. Throughout the school year, we achieved great success in athletics, as multiple Blue Devil teams advanced to the playoffs, while dozens of students were recognized on all-region and all-state teams. In 24-25, Boys Swimming and Girls Track & Field won region championships, and Girls Soccer and Boys Track & Field were region runners-up. Additionally, we had two Coaches of the Year, one for Boys Swimming and the other for Girls Track and Field, the Region 3 4A Defensive Player of the Year in Football, and the 4A Girls State Champion in the Triple Jump.
The Blue Devil Nation is committed to partnering with parents and the community to provide all students with a learning environment to enrich academic, vocational, and personal growth.
