Irmo High School International School for the Arts is a vibrant and dynamic learning community committed to nurturing the academic, emotional, and social growth of every student. As an IB World School and arts magnet, we strive to ensure that all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We do this through rigorous academic coursework, real-world experiences, and innovative programming that prepares students for success in college, careers, and life.
Our academic offerings include Advanced Placement (AP), the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and Career-related Programmes, Dual Enrollment, and a variety of career-ready opportunities through business internships and community partnerships. Through these programs, students engage in meaningful, relevant learning that builds critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.
As a magnet school for the arts, creativity, innovation, and global-mindedness are at the core of our mission and are reflected across all subject areas—especially in our distinctive offerings in the arts. Students have access to specialized instruction in guitar, piano, world percussion, dance, stained glass, and technical theater. These programs exemplify our commitment to providing diverse, engaging experiences that challenge and inspire.
Additionally, our Dual Enrollment program, offered in partnership with a local technical college - Midlands Technical College - allows students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously. Students can take college-level courses in English, sociology, psychology, medical terminology, criminal justice expanding their academic horizons and accelerating their path to college or career.
Our partnership with the Center for Advanced Technical Studies provides targeted instruction to support student goals, including pathways in criminal justice, medical sciences, English, psychology, sociology, and theatre. We also offer the IB Career-related Programme (CP), which blends academic study with practical, career-focused learning. Through the CP, students take a selection of IB Diploma courses while simultaneously participating in career-related studies such as health science, criminal justice, or performing arts. This unique model supports both college and career readiness by combining academic rigor with real-world relevance.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a cornerstone of our academic excellence, offering a globally recognized curriculum that challenges students to think critically, engage in deep inquiry, and develop a strong sense of global citizenship. Students in the IB Diploma Programme undertake rigorous coursework across six subject areas, complete independent research through the Extended Essay, participate in the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course to explore the nature of knowledge itself, and engage in Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) experiences that encourage personal growth and community involvement. This holistic approach prepares students for the demands of higher education and life beyond the classroom.
Beyond academics, Irmo High School International School for the Arts is proud to offer a wide range of extracurricular activities designed to cultivate well-rounded, engaged, and confident individuals. We believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, and our diverse selection of student organizations, clubs, and athletics provides invaluable opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and meaningful connection.
Students can explore their passions and talents through participation in a variety of clubs and enrichment programs, including, theater, music ensembles, visual arts, and community service initiatives with student council. These groups offer a platform for creative expression, innovation, and civic engagement, encouraging students to think independently, work collaboratively, and contribute positively to both their school and the broader community.
Our fine arts programs are particularly strong, with students engaging in theater productions, band and orchestra performances, vocal ensembles, and competitive arts showcases. These experiences are closely aligned with our identity as an arts magnet school, reinforcing our commitment to creativity and cultural enrichment.
For students interested in leadership and service, we offer organizations such as Student Government, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Key Club, which empower students to lead initiatives, organize events, and represent their peers with integrity and vision. These opportunities nurture skills in communication, project management, and ethical decision-making—qualities essential for success in any field.
