Dear Southside Families,
Southside High School provides a rigorous learning environment that challenges and optimizes potential to promote college and career readiness and enable students to reach their personal best. SHS will accomplish its vision through a standards-based curriculum, data-driven instruction, and stakeholder collaboration. We will know that we are meeting our vision and mission when students graduate with career and college readiness combined with the social and emotional awareness to affect positive change in our citizenship.
As an Early College high school, school staff intensively supports students to ensure they are prepared to secure either a two-year associate's degree or work-based certification upon graduation. Often the first in their family to attend college, these students make it abundantly clear that with the appropriate support, all students can leave high school with a clear pathway to lifelong learning and success.
As an IB high school, our IB program is a rigorous, two-year, comprehensive curriculum for grades 11 and 12 that seeks to prepare students for post-secondary study through courses and instructional techniques emphasizing critical thinking, effective self-expression, and application of knowledge. Our strong tradition of academic excellence prepares students for college and beyond. Students taking AP and/or IB classes, especially those earning the IB Diploma, are well prepared to compete for scholarships and college entry requirements. This strong tradition of academic excellence prepares students for college and beyond.
We are committed to ensuring that every student at Southside is college, career, and citizenship-ready. Southside works collaboratively with all members of our learning community—our students and their families, our teachers, assistant principals, and staff members—all have opportunities to share their opinions and perspectives. Together, we will create pathways of success for all students. As such, our school has seen notable improvement in our state report card metrics, including Graduation Rate, College and Career Readiness, Academics, and School Climate. These improvements reflect a schoolwide culture of high expectations, strategic innovation, and collaborative leadership.
