West Ashley High School (WAHS) proudly serves over 2,000 students in grades 9–12 as the neighborhood high school for the West Ashley community. We are committed to preparing students with the skills and qualities outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by fostering academic achievement, personal growth, and respect for diversity.
Students have access to more than 200 courses, including Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, honors, and college preparatory options. Our career & technical education programs, fine and performing arts, world languages, and partnership with the West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies offer students opportunities to earn industry certifications and explore various career pathways.
Our innovative Flex Mod schedule promotes personalized learning, independent study, and targeted support, enabling students to build the skills necessary for college and career success. Additionally, our PACK program—centered on Personal Responsibility, Advocacy, Collaboration, and Kindness—connects students with a dedicated mentor and provides daily guidance in academic planning, college and career prep, and community engagement.
WAHS also boasts a competitive 5A athletic program, with student-athletes earning championships and securing college commitments while developing leadership, resilience, and teamwork skills. Beyond sports, students can join numerous clubs and activities, ranging from robotics and DECA to fine arts, and speech & debate, which fosters a vibrant and inclusive campus culture.
In 2024–2025, WAHS earned a “Good” rating on the SC School Report Card for the first time in years, reflecting our commitment to improvement and student success. We are committed to building on this momentum as we strive for excellence in all areas. The Class of 2025 earned over $4.7 million in scholarships, with many students deemed College or Career Ready, and will have the highest recorded graduation rate in the school’s history.
We continue to prioritize literacy across all grade levels, supporting district-wide efforts to ensure that all students read at or above grade level by the fifth grade. Teachers embed vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and advanced writing skills into every subject to support academic excellence.
At WAHS, we value a culture of inclusion and belonging. We celebrate diversity through student-led initiatives, expanded involvement opportunities, and strong relationships among students, staff, and families. With active support from our PTSO and community partners, we remain focused on providing a well-rounded, meaningful educational experience that reflects the spirit and strength of West Ashley.
