As we close out the 2024–2025 school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we’ve made together as a school community. This has been a year of exciting change and meaningful growth at York Road Elementary.

With a new administration team, many new staff members, and fresh ideas and initiatives, we entered this year with a clear focus on three priorities: establishing a growth mindset, building community, and creating a positive school environment. I am proud to say that through the commitment and collaboration of our staff, students, and families, we’ve made strong strides in each of these areas.

Our teachers worked tirelessly to build a culture of growth—for themselves and for every child. Staff focused on implementing the new state reading standards and launching a new reading curriculum designed to increase academic rigor and build strong vocabulary foundations for all students. Professional development centered on foundational reading skills and differentiated instruction using learning progressions. In the classroom, students were empowered to set and work toward both academic and social-emotional goals, helping them take ownership of their learning and personal development.

Throughout the year, we hosted four vibrant family events—GrandPAWS Diner, Winter Around the World, Celebrating YRES Diversity, and Spring into Success—all designed to strengthen foundational skills in reading and math, promote test-taking strategies, and equip families with tools to support learning at home. Our incredible PTA further enriched our year with additional community events, including March Madness, and helped spotlight student talents with performances at every PTA meeting. Our YRES Chorus also brought joy to the community through three stunning performances that highlighted the creativity and confidence of our students.

Creating a safe, nurturing environment remained a top priority. We strengthened our PAWS behavior expectations and embedded proactive social-emotional instruction into daily morning meetings. These efforts contributed to a noticeable decrease in disruptive behaviors, allowing students to remain more focused and engaged in their learning.

One of our proudest moments was the second annual Growth Parade, where our entire school community came together to celebrate the academic and personal growth of our students. It was a true reflection of the culture we’re building at York Road—a place where every child is seen, supported, and celebrated.

Thank you for your continued partnership and trust. This year, we didn’t just navigate change—we grew stronger because of it. I look forward to building on this momentum as we move into the 2025–2026 school year, united in our belief in the limitless potential of our students.
