Old Pointe Elementary School is dedicated to cultivating the World Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate for every student we serve. Our passionate and committed staff work daily to create a learning environment where students are challenged academically, supported socially and emotionally, and inspired to grow as thinkers, collaborators, communicators, and creators. We are relentless in our pursuit of excellence and committed to continuous growth.

This year, our Kindergarten students began using iPads instead of HP laptops to better support their developmental and instructional needs. Students in grades 1 through 5 continued using HP devices to support blended learning and encourage active, hands-on participation in lessons across all subject areas.

A significant step in enhancing our instructional practices was the launch of LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training for all teachers in Kindergarten through fifth grade. This training provides educators with a deep understanding of the science of reading and equips them with research-based strategies to ensure every child builds a strong foundation in literacy.

We also expanded our focus on the whole child. Daily Morning Meetings were implemented across the school using the InFocus curriculum to strengthen students’ social-emotional learning. In addition, targeted mentoring programs were provided for students in grades 3 through 5 based on results from the BIMAS universal screener. A teacher-led mentoring initiative was also introduced, where identified students were partnered with staff members to help build strong, supportive relationships and foster meaningful connections between students and adults within the school community.

Our Panther PRIDE initiative, which stands for Positive attitude, Responsibility, Initiative, Determination, and Excellence, continued to shape our school culture. Students were celebrated throughout the year for exemplifying these core values. These celebrations contributed to a positive and unified school community through quarterly recognition events.

Within our Professional Learning Communities, teachers engaged in collaborative work to increase instructional rigor, design standards-aligned lessons, analyze student data, and build shared assessments. A focus on developing clear learning progressions ensured that every student had an entry point into the learning. Staff also worked to provide targeted supports through Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instruction. Through this intentional professional development and collaboration, we remained focused on our ultimate goal of student growth and achievement.

As we look ahead, Old Pointe Elementary will continue to invest in instructional excellence, meaningful relationships, and the tools necessary to help every child thrive. We are proud of the accomplishments of the 2024-2025 academic year and are excited for the continued growth and success that lie ahead.
