At York Intermediate School, we are committed to helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by cultivating a collaborative, innovative, and student-centered learning environment. Guided by our district’s vision, “To Learn, Serve, and Give as ONE,” our 2024–2025 school theme, “The Journey is Ours,” inspired students and staff to embrace change, navigate new beginnings, persevere through challenges, support one another, and discover the strength within themselves to lead.
A key instructional goal this year was to evaluate the effectiveness of our instructional tools in enhancing student learning and delivering high-quality educational experiences. With each student equipped with a district-issued Chromebook, we integrated technology into daily instruction through interactive platforms that promote collaboration, teamwork, and digital literacy. These tools empower students to take ownership of their learning while developing essential 21st-century skills.
Teachers leverage a diverse range of instructional tools in their classrooms and collaborate with colleagues to design and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons that promote critical thinking, creativity, and real-world problem solving. Through intentional planning, our teachers integrate their South Carolina content standards with innovative instructional strategies that captivate and challenge students.
A strong emphasis on literacy is woven throughout our curriculum, supported by a dynamic team that includes our Media Specialist, Literacy Coach, Academic Interventionist, and classroom teachers. This team approach ensures that all students receive the supports needed to grow as confident, capable readers and communicators.
With a focus on continued learning, our teachers are committed to continuous professional growth. They actively participate in student-centered professional development opportunities led by our district technology specialists, ensuring they remain at the forefront of educational innovation and best practices.
Our School Improvement Council (SIC) prioritized strengthening family and community engagement during the 2024–2025 school year. With the support of our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), our SIC expanded and supported a variety of initiatives, including Cougar Quest Awards, Student Ambassadors, Anne Frank Traveling Exhibit Community Event, Family Night, Career Day, Rising 5th Grade Tours, and Rising 5th Grade Parent Meeting.
In the coming year, we are excited to begin our Leader in Me journey, enhance Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction to better meet the needs of all learners, launch updates to our master schedule to more effectively target student interventions and enrichment opportunities, and continue to prioritize building strong, meaningful relationships with our students and families.
Together, these efforts create a vibrant learning environment at York Intermediate School, where every student is equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the next phase of their educational journey.
