Rafting Creek Elementary School is progressing rapidly toward achieving our school-wide goals and objectives of helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing them with a quality education in an environment where they feel safe and enjoy learning.
We are constantly evolving in order to meet the needs of our students and welcome any changes that will support student success. Rafting Creek’s highly qualified staff delivers an engaging, rigorous curriculum utilizing best practices in ELA, math, science, and social studies based on SC College and Career Readiness Standards. Our students are provided with daily equitable learning experiences that help them to think critically, master learning, and develop problem-solving, as well as, life skills that will enhance their college and career readiness. Some effective strategies that were used this year include
Title I Funds were strategically used to support both student learning and staff development. These funds provided career exploration materials for 4th and 5th grade students, funded educational field trips for grades K–5, and supported enrichment programs such as STEM activities and Girls on the Run. In addition, professional development opportunities such as conferences, workshops, and classroom resources were provided to enhance teaching and learning. Students also received books and materials to take home that reinforced classroom instruction.
We also enhanced student learning in the arts through a grant awarded by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which allowed a drumming group to facilitate engaging music classes for students in grades K–5.
In addition, Rafting Creek is equipped with One-to-one Global technology. Students in grades K-5 each have a Chromebook. Students explore, solve problems, collaborate and produce products demonstrating their understanding and readiness for a 21st-century global society using the technology provided.
Character Education is woven into the fabric of our school culture, helping students build integrity, a strong work ethic, positive interpersonal skills, and the self-motivation needed to thrive both in school and in the community.
Parental and community involvement remains vital to our success. We are proud of our ongoing partnerships, including our Lunch Buddies program with Sumter County government employees and our valued relationship with Shaw Air Force Base 4th BCD. Together with our families and stakeholders, we continue to strengthen the services and opportunities we provide in pursuit of our mission: To provide a quality education for all students.
