River Ridge Elementary School proudly serves more than 780 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. We believe that every member of our school community is a stakeholder in the academic and personal success of our students.
We are dedicated to helping all students develop the World-Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by fostering a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. Our mission is to prepare students to thrive in a global society by providing exceptional educational experiences that are inclusive, rigorous, and supportive.

At River Ridge, we implement AVID strategies across grade levels to promote critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity—skills essential for lifelong learning and future careers. Instructional approaches such as explicit instruction and support in academic language and literacy, differentiated instruction and inquiry-based learning to promote engagement, accountability, and deeper understanding.
Academic achievement remains a top priority. Our teaching practices are driven by rigorous, standards-based instruction aligned with the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards, and informed by ongoing data analysis.
We recognize that literacy is the foundation of all learning. Our team is deeply committed to meeting the expectations of Read to Succeed (Act 284) by using engaging, evidence-based, and differentiated strategies. Teachers are being trained in the Science of Reading using LETRS. Instruction is guided by student data to support the development of strong communication and critical thinking skills needed for college, career, and citizenship.
Technology integration enhances learning and collaboration across all content areas. All classrooms are equipped with Promethean boards and supported by resources such as Ozobots, LEGO Robotics, and laser printers. All students in kindergarten through fifth grade benefit from a 1:1 Chromebook program, empowering them as communicators, researchers, and critical thinkers prepared to compete in a global society.
We also implement a robust Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) using the SCDE framework. Weekly data analysis allows teachers and staff to make informed decisions and provide timely, targeted interventions in reading, math, and social-emotional learning—ensuring that each student’s unique needs are met throughout the year.
River Ridge students build leadership and life skills through diverse programs and activities. Opportunities include Safety Patrol, Student Council (K5-5th grade), the Morning News Team, Flag Team, The Robotics Club, Girls on the Run and Treble-makers (4th and 5th Grade Chorus). We offer programs such as Multilingual Learners (ML), Reading and Math Intervention, Gifted & Talented (academic and art), Character Education, the Olweus Anti-Bullying Program and Project Lead the Way Lab.
Students give back through meaningful service learning projects like Jump Rope for Heart, community food drives (Middle Tyger Community Food Pantry/Cereal Box Domino Challenge) and providing treat bags to residents of a local nursing home.. These experiences nurture interpersonal skills, perseverance, self-direction, and a strong work ethic.
