Our school is helping all scholars develop the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by ensuring they receive rigorous standards-based instruction focused on high levels of scholar mastery and daily scholar engagement in every classroom. Our school's focus was to ensure that all scholars were authentically engaged in real-world learning experiences that were both standards-based and culturally relevant, engaging, and rigorous.
Through ongoing research-based professional development, instructional research-based best practices, and targeted scholar interventions, scholars are provided quality instruction to become successful learners. Teachers and instructional assistants are provided multiple opportunities to collaborate through weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLC), grade-level planning, and weekly data analysis of Common Formative Assessments (CFA). The staff used data results from various assessment sources to provide targeted interventions, including but not limited to STAR Reading and Math, Mastery Connect, Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), Benchmark Assessment System (BAS), Wonders Progress Monitoring, and I-Ready Assessments. Staff members analyzed data using an Assessment Analysis form, data notebooks, and online data. In addition, scholars tracked data and progress towards goals through data folders.
The school used technology resources such as Microsoft Teams, online curriculum resources, SMART Boards, laptops, and desktop computers to support scholars' cross-curricular learning and develop college and career-readiness skills. All scholars in kindergarten through fifth grade have 1:1 access to laptops. Burton-Pack works closely with our parents, families, business partners, community members, and stakeholders to meet our scholars' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
We will continue to inspire our scholars' interests and foster leadership as well as host activities in which to engage scholars, such as Beta Club, Principal Advisory Council, Girls GEMS Club, Dance Team, Running Club, Fitness Bowl, Breast Cancer Walk, District Spelling Bee, Special Olympics, PBIS school store, AVID, monthly and quarterly celebrations for attendance, positive behavior, academics and assessments, curriculum nights, and parent and family engagement activities held at least twice per month.
Burton-Pack Elementary School supports our scholars' academic achievement, character traits, positive behavior, and social-emotional needs through the use of SEL, Buddy Benches throughout the building, and two sensory rooms. Each scholar also has an adult advocate in the building. We believe in transforming lives positively through education.
