Meadow Glen Elementary School is helping all students develop the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating a culture of continuous improvement. At MGES, our motto is “Believe. Work. Grow... We are CREW.” We foster a family of learners, dedicated to the mastery of knowledge and skills, high levels of character and leadership, and the production of high-quality work. MGES Explorers are “Rooted in Knowledge, Growing in Wisdom,” and our vision is to see, hear and experience life from various angles, creating a limitless future. Our staff, students and families share a strong sense of belonging, making thoughtful and meaningful decisions. MGES graduates are caring, collaborative, critical thinkers, creative and effective communicators, consistently producing high-quality work.
Strong Academic Growth & Achievement
For the 2024–2025 school year, we’ve focused on using data to design intentional, student-needs-based lessons, leading to significant positive progress in foundational literacy and math skills. Both math and reading diagnostics show a substantial increase in students performing at or above their expected grade level from Fall to the most recent assessment.
Key Diagnostic Progress (Fall to Spring Assessment):
-
Overall At or Above Grade Level: Combined, students performing at or above grade level (Mid or Above + Early On) surged from approximately 28.4% (212 students) to 73.8% (551 students) in math, and from approximately 38.8% (289 students) to 74% (551 students) in reading. This reflects remarkable growth across subjects.
-
Reduced Below Grade Level: Correspondingly, the number of students performing below grade level dropped dramatically. In math, students below grade level decreased from 535 to 196 (from 71.6% to 26.2%). In reading, this group decreased from 456 to 194 (from 61.2% to 26%). This includes significant reductions across all categories (one, two or three+ grade levels below).
These findings highlight the significant positive progress made by students at MGES during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Developing the Lexington One Graduate Profile
MGES challenges and supports students to excel by embodying key attributes:
-
Knowledgeable: Our Mandarin Chinese Immersion Program across all six grade levels fosters language acquisition, cultural understanding and enhanced cognitive skills.
-
Creative Thinkers and Problem Solvers: Our award-winning fourth- and fifth-grade Robotics Teams (State qualifiers), grade-level expedition work and memorable theater productions (Jungle Book Kids, Aladdin, Jr., Arts Night) demonstrate student innovation.
-
Independent Learners: Student-led conferences (K–5) empower students such as Adeline Pearson to discuss their progress with families using digital examples.
-
Communicators: Strong listening, speaking and writing skills are evident in SLCs, our vibrant Chinese New Year celebration and theater productions.
-
Collaborators: The “CREW” concept emphasizes productive teamwork. Collaboration is central to our Robotics Teams and partnerships with feeder schools such as Meadow Glen Middle and River Bluff High School.
-
Future-ready Literate: Students develop essential media and technology skills, supported by Robotics Teams and digital tools in SLCs.
-
Personally and Socially Responsible: The Graduate Profile guides our focus on safety, behavioral growth and mental wellness. Initiatives such as the Green Team, food drives and the Run Hard program exemplify this.
-
Kind: Our community values empathy, thoughtfulness and encouragement, fostering a caring environment, exemplified by the Run Hard program motto: “Build up, don’t tear down.”
-
Resilient: The Run Hard program builds confidence and endurance, guiding students to persevere toward a 5K goal and view challenges as growth opportunities.
A Strong Community and Dedicated Staff
MGES is a truly special place where teachers, students and the community make work feel like home. We actively recruit, retain and celebrate the best and brightest educators, and we celebrate their excellence. The continuous dedication to improvement and innovation by our entire team is evident year after year; this past year, we were proud to recognize our 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Jean Cochran, and Staff Member of the Year, Mrs. Tammy Ritchie.
Our community partnerships are integral to our success, strengthened through monthly restaurant nights, community service events and special school events such as the Fall Book Fair, Field Day and Boosterthon. Our School Improvement Council is committed to deepening cultural understanding among diverse families. We also collaborate with feeder schools such as MGMS and RBHS, bringing programs such as iCivics Gatoraides and sports team visits to campus.
Aligned with our district’s mission to guide all students to learn, grow and excel, MGES is dedicated to equipping our students with the essential skills for college, career and life.
