Lugoff Elementary School (LES) assists students in developing the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing meaningful and targeted learning experiences. These opportunities develop competent, confident, lifelong learners by creating a safe, positive child-centered environment where our school and community work collaboratively to help students reach their potential.
At LES, one of our mantras is to make every minute count. Our teachers continuously seek and implement interactive and research based strategies to use in the classroom such as Reflex and Frax Math, Reading Eggs/Eggspress, MathSeeds,LETRS, the Science of Reading, Guided Math, Reader's and Writer's Workshop, Dreambox, Study Island, and the Edmentum Suite. These, along with differentiated instruction, effective Tier 1 instruction, time with our reading interventionist, and attention to assessment results, help us meet the needs of our learners.
LES students participate in activities that develop them academically, socially and emotionally. They are rewarded throughout the year for positive behavior and choices through our Ron Clark House System where we are “six houses, but one school”. Students also serve on safety patrol, flag patrol, the morning news show, and in the Beta Club. Elected fifth graders are able to serve as house leaders for our monthly House Huddles. Our school counselor develops students of good character through monthly lessons on study/school skills, bullying, drug awareness, personal body safety, friendship skills, and empathy. Also, a student from every classroom is recognized for best exhibiting the character word of the month. In order to help promote a global perspective and encourage our students to not only be thinkers, but doers, we encourage participation in several community service learning projects. This past year, students collected food items for the Ronald McDonald House family room, made Easter baskets for the residents at The Legacy Assisted Living Facility, as well as raised funds for the United Way.
Our school remains committed to encouraging the continued academic, social and emotional growth of all of our students.
