Blaney Elementary School in Elgin, South Carolina, proudly models and teaches our mission of: Caring for others, Aiming to be Great, and Thinking Positively. These words that students repeat each day on the student-led morning show are not just a motto, but are practiced in the school’s culture, programs, and community engagement.
Blaney teaches students to lead by example through meaningful service initiatives that give back to others and our community. Students and staff participated in a 48-hour fundraiser for Hurricane Helene relief and took up donations for a food drive benefiting the Elgin Police Department's Toy Roundup. Students were also given opportunities each month to participate in Service Quest Project that benefit both our local community and abroad.
The 2024–2025 school year focused on improving our school climate. The implementation of the Ron Clark Academy House System was a positive way of uniting students and staff into eight houses to promote leadership, teamwork, good character and school spirit. Our focus led us to embrace our Eight Houses, Every Wildcat theme. This initiative was supported by the PTA, which sponsored house shirts for all students and staff. Our PTA supported our efforts throughout the school year through fundraising money. These fundraisers went on to sponsor One Book, One School, teacher projects, duty free lunches, field day activities and much more.
Blaney's commitment to excellence was evident in revamping the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process and introducing Morning Meetings that set a positive tone for the day. The school also celebrated a significant achievement with a staff member being named District Teacher of the Year, highlighting the dedication from highly qualified and passionate staff members.
Family involvement was a key focus by welcoming families to support our goal to improve school climate. Parent and community participation improved by 154%. This year, Blaney was intentional in bridging our school, families, and community through opportunities such as Spirit Nights at local restaurants, Thanksgiving lunch, Grandparents' Breakfast, First Annual Cat’s Carnival, Fall Literacy Night, and Field Day. Our goal was to fellowship and engage in experiences that strengthen the school community.
Blaney Elementary invites all families to be active members of the school community. Through strong partnerships between educators, families, and Blaney Elementary, our students will continue to soar academically, socially, and emotionally in the heart of Elgin.
Go Wildcats!
