Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy of Florence School District Three is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on creativity and critical thinking throughout the 2024-2025 school year. By using innovative and standards aligned curriculum, along with a strong STEM initiative, Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy continues to provide hands-on, student centered learning where students are asked to think critically and grow in their ability to solve real life problems. The additional STEM classes offered to all students at Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy this year included Gardening, STEM Lab, and Health Science.
Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy also offers many extracurricular clubs focused on different areas of STEM education. By offering opportunities beyond the traditional content at the elementary level, our students are given experiences that prepare them for STEM learning at the next level. Students are also given the opportunity to explore a variety of career opportunities through attending monthly Club Days, having guest speakers in our STEM classes, reading literature about different careers embedded within our STEM curriculum, and through field trips highlighting various career opportunities within our community.
As a STEM certified school through Cognia, our students are knowledgeable in problem based learning and the engineering design process which is used throughout all content areas. The innovation and rigor exhibited at Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy has had a direct impact on our accomplishments this year. We plan to continue these efforts to ensure that our students have the World Class Knowledge and Skills to be productive citizens in the future.
