At Oakbrook Elementary School (OES), we are committed to helping all students develop the World-Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by delivering rigorous instruction, fostering meaningful relationships, cultivating life and career skills, and encouraging a love for life-long learning.
Serving students from preschool through fifth grade, OES provides a comprehensive educational experience built on South Carolina’s rigorous state standards in English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Fine Arts—including Physical Education, Music, and Art. Our dedicated educators use best teaching practices aligned with district Literacy and Math models to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.
As a 1:1 technology-integrated school, we implement Dorchester District Two’s technology initiative using programs such as Waterford, Exact Path, and Study Island. Universal screeners, benchmark assessments, and computer-assisted instruction enable teachers to evaluate current student performance and differentiate learning to meet individual needs.
From Kindergarten through second grade, students benefit from the University of Florida Literacy Initiative: Tutoring for Beginning Readers, a powerful reading intervention. Students in grades 2–5 receive targeted support in both literacy and math through structured intervention programs. Across all grade levels, problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and project-based learning expand student learning beyond the basics.
OES is proud to be a “National Capturing Kids’ Hearts Showcase School” for the seventh consecutive year. Building strong relationships among students, staff, and families is foundational to our success. Each class co-creates a social contract to guide behavior throughout the year. Classrooms and the media center feature affirmation stations where students and staff share positive feedback, and each day begins with students sharing “Good Things” to foster a positive culture.
In the 2024–2025 school year, OES was honored to receive 2nd Place in the MUSC/Boeing Health and Wellness Initiative, reflecting our commitment to the whole child.
We also believe in engaging families as partners in education. OES hosts a variety of family events, including Reading and Math Parent Nights, STEAM Night, Book Bingo, our Fall Festival, grade-level showcase performances, and award celebrations. We were excited to bring back Oakie Spoleto this year! During this event, our students participate in a fine arts festival put on by fellow DD2 school groups, as well as our OES students. Our extracurricular programs include FLL Explore (3rd grade), FLL Robotics (4th–5th grade), Safety Patrol, Chorus, Man Up, and the OES Drama Club.
At Oakbrook Elementary, we follow the Capturing Kid’s Hearts motto "If you have a child’s heart, you have a child’s mind." We strive to develop well-rounded students prepared for college, career, and life—with relationships, rigor, and relevance at the heart of all we do.
