McBee Elementary School is committed to helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We foster this growth by providing a safe, nurturing, and academically challenging learning environment where students are encouraged to thrive. Through our district’s vision of high expectations paired with strong support systems, we empower students to become lifelong learners who are equipped to succeed in an ever-changing world.
Our instructional practices are grounded in research-based strategies and continuous improvement. Teachers actively engage in professional development through coursework, book studies, data analysis, and reflective teaching. This year, we began implementing the newly adopted HMH Into Reading curriculum, which supports strong literacy development through a comprehensive, structured approach. Teachers also continue to use small group guided reading, writing workshop, and integrated ELA and Social Studies instruction. We utilize tools such as the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, iReady data, running records, and both the iReady and IXL personalized learning to tailor instruction and meet each student's individual needs. In addition, most of our teachers are now LETRS certified or are halfway completed with the LETRS phonics training, strengthening early literacy through a deeper understanding of phonemic awareness and foundational reading skills.
At McBee Elementary, we are committed to educating the whole child—intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Our school counselor conducts regular classroom lessons focusing on topics such as bullying prevention, character development, communication, and peer interactions. She also provides individual and small group support for students in need of additional social-emotional care. We place a strong emphasis on collaboration and communication, encouraging students to engage in meaningful conversations during both classroom and guidance activities.
Community involvement continues to be a vital part of our school’s culture. Our Beta Club students led and participated in service projects that foster responsibility and compassion. McBee Elementary supported Relay for Life, March of Dimes, and the United Way. Through partnerships with organizations such as the Lion’s Club and CareSouth, as well as local sponsors, we are able to provide school supplies, weekend food backpacks, and health-related services to meet student needs beyond the classroom.
We believe that the strength of our school lies in the partnerships among teachers, families, and the community. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for our students by building the foundation they need for academic, social, and personal success. At McBee Elementary School, we are proud of our commitment to excellence and the shared responsibility we embrace to help every child reach their full potential.
