Edwards Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school mission: “To prepare students to become responsible individuals by creating a positive environment where dedicated staff, parents, and community members work together to provide opportunities for success and creativity through academics and the arts.”  We achieve this by challenging our students with rigorous instruction and high expectations. We strive to keep our staff abreast of the best research-proven instructional strategies through continuous professional development. Our teachers are always seeking to learn new and effective strategies to use in the classroom such as: differentiated instruction, integrated literacy practices, Response to Intervention/for English Language Arts including targeted instruction supporting the Science of Reading, small group reading/phonics instruction, interactive read alouds, and support from a Reading Interventionist, Math Coach and Literacy Coach. Edwards Elementary utilizes a MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) framework to help educators provide academic and behavioral strategies for students with varying needs.    Our instructional practices are based on student data, teacher observations, and analyzing student work. Our instruction is founded on students’ needs and grade level standards.  At Edwards Elementary we also have various programs outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child.  School-wide, we have focused bullying education and character education through guidance classes and in the classroom. Students participate in and raise money for Relay for Life, as well as a Food Drive to assist our weekly backpack food program. Finally, we continue to offer free Breakfast in the Classroom as well as free student lunch. This program ensures all have a healthy breakfast and are ready to begin their day, as well as a health lunch mid-day. CERDEP students also receive a snack daily.   At Edwards Elementary, family, school, and community share in the educational development of our children.
