Pepperhill Elementary School, established in 1975, is one of the remaining neighborhood schools in the Charleston County School District. Our mission is to serve our community by providing high-quality educational experiences that equip every scholar with the world-class skills needed to graduate from high school and thrive as productive, engaged citizens.
At Pepperhill, we prioritize rigorous instruction that promotes literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, and student engagement. Our educators understand the importance of the whole child and are deeply committed to fostering a supportive learning environment that nurtures students' social and emotional well-being.
Literacy is a cornerstone of our instructional approach. Students engage with meaningful texts that connect to real-world topics, encouraging deep thinking and rich discussions among peers. Classrooms are dynamic spaces where collaborative learning protocols are used to inspire active participation, thoughtful dialogue, and a love of learning.
In mathematics, our scholars develop essential skills in number operations, geometry, algebraic thinking, measurement, and data. Through visual models, multiple problem-solving strategies, and classroom discourse, students learn to make sense of math concepts and apply them to real-life situations. It is a joy to see our scholars confidently discuss and defend their mathematical thinking.
Our vision is clear: All students will reach or exceed grade-level expectations in reading and math by the end of third grade and continue to thrive in fourth and fifth grades.
In addition to strong academics, Pepperhill is committed to creating a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture. We implement the Ron Clark Academy’s House System to promote community, character, and school spirit. Our social-emotional learning is grounded in the Second Step curriculum, which teaches critical life skills. Positive behaviors are recognized through a points-based reward system, allowing students to shop at our school store and attend celebratory House events each semester.
At Pepperhill Elementary, every adult is dedicated to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our scholars. We strive to empower our students to become confident learners, compassionate individuals, and future-ready citizens—prepared to lead, serve, and succeed in college, careers, and beyond.
