Hunley Park Elementary School, proudly serving our community since 1959, is represented by our beloved mascot, Alpha the Buzzy Bee. Our mission is to cultivate a strong sense of belonging and community through the Ron Clark House System while ensuring every student gains the world-class knowledge and skills expected of a South Carolina graduate.
Our passionate and dedicated educators deliver rigorous, standards-based instruction focused on literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, collaboration, and student engagement. We prioritize social-emotional learning and create a nurturing, inclusive environment where all students feel safe, seen, and supported.
Literacy instruction at Hunley Park emphasizes relevance and connection—students explore academic texts that reflect their experiences and inspire meaningful conversations. Our classrooms are collaboration hubs, where teachers use structured discussion protocols to promote dialogue, debate, and deeper understanding. In math, students build numeracy through hands-on problem solving, visual models, peer collaboration, and explaining their thinking—bridging classroom learning with real-world application.
Enrichment extends beyond the classroom through thoughtfully planned field trips. Students explore sea life at the aquarium, develop scientific inquiry skills at the Barrier Islands, experience the arts at the Gaillard, and learn about future careers on career day. Our robust related arts schedule offers art, music, physical education, computer, Spanish, and STEM, along with competitive extracurricular programs such as soccer, football, basketball, and step team.
At the heart of our school is the Ron Clark House System, where each student belongs to one of four houses: Isibindi, Altruismo, Amistad, or Rêveur. Students proudly wear their house colors, chant their house songs, and strive to earn points through academic excellence, positive behavior, and leadership. Weekly house lessons and the Second Step curriculum strengthen our scholars' social-emotional skills, promote positive choices, and build a strong, unified school culture.
Hunley Park Elementary is more than a school—it’s a community. We are united in our commitment to educating the whole child and preparing every scholar to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Walking our halls, you’ll feel the warmth, pride, and unity that define the Hunley Park experience. Every child is known, valued, and empowered to succeed.
