W.B. Goodwin Elementary School: A Commitment to Growing Together
At W.B. Goodwin Elementary, we are more than just a school—we are a family committed to nurturing every scholar’s potential. As a neighborhood school, we take pride in supporting the whole child, helping each one grow academically, socially, and emotionally, while building the world-class skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Our mission is rooted in a shared belief that all children can succeed when surrounded by a caring community of adults who believe in them. Together with our families, we strive to create a school environment where scholars are seen, heard, and challenged to be their very best—both in the classroom and in life.
During the 2024–2025 school year, our work is guided by a thoughtful 90-day plan that reflects our collective goals and helps us focus on what matters most: your child’s growth and success. We continuously revisit this plan to celebrate progress, address challenges, and adjust our approach to meet the unique needs of our scholars and families.
With a strong foundation in English Language Arts and Math, our teachers are dedicated to providing rigorous, engaging instruction. They spend time in meaningful professional development, learning how to analyze student assessments and adjust their teaching to support each learner better. Through i-Ready, our personalized digital platform, scholars receive targeted lessons that build on their strengths and address their individual learning needs.
We believe parents play a vital role in the academic journey. That’s why we place great importance on keeping you informed and involved. Our teachers use data notebooks, conferences, and conversations to help you understand your child’s progress and set goals together. We also monitor key academic indicators using tools such as i-Ready (Grades 1–5), FastBridge (Grades K–1), and MyIGDIs (Child Development), ensuring instruction is tailored to every scholar.
Our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process allows teachers and administrators to come together, review progress, and make decisions that are best for your child. These meetings are more than just data discussions—they're opportunities to reflect, problem-solve, and celebrate growth.
We are especially proud of the strong relationships we build with our families. We know that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door, and our open-door policy invites all parents and caregivers to be active, valued members of our school family. Your voice matters, and we are grateful for the partnership you bring to your child’s educational journey.
Social-emotional development is also a central focus. Our school-wide SEL program gives scholars the tools to manage emotions, build empathy, and solve problems peacefully. Restorative Practices training has helped staff deepen their ability to connect with students authentically and meaningfully, fostering a learning environment where every scholar feels supported and safe.
At W.B. Goodwin, we set high expectations because we believe in the incredible potential of every child. Teachers meet regularly to discuss academic, social, and emotional progress, ensuring no scholar falls through the cracks. Most importantly, we communicate regularly with families to share this progress, celebrate milestones, and walk hand-in-hand toward each child’s success.
Our continued growth as a school is only possible through the strength of our shared commitment. Together with our scholars, families, faculty, and community, we will continue to build a culture of care, excellence, and opportunity for every learner.
We Can, and We Will Excel—Together.
