Rawlinson Road Middle School is dedicated to educating the whole child through academics, social and emotional education, fine arts programs, and athletics. Our goal is to develop students as lifelong learners in an inclusive and challenging educational setting.
The staff at Rawlinson Road Middle School provides authentic instruction to empower students to take control of their learning. We have implemented the workshop model of instruction to ensure active student engagement. Our approach includes literacy-based teaching across all subjects and math lessons that emphasize real-world applications and hands-on learning. Teachers collaborate regularly in professional learning communities to enhance instruction through data analysis and evaluation of teaching methods. Staff members also engage in monthly professional development activities to uphold their commitment to ongoing learning. Raider Time, a daily enrichment period, is dedicated to providing academic support and extension activities for students as needed.
In addition to academic development, Rawlinson Road focuses on nurturing social-emotional learning and leadership skills through its designation as a Leader-in-Me school. Students are exposed to lessons centered around the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, while teachers receive continuous training to integrate these principles into daily interactions. Furthermore, RRMS supports positive student behavior through the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports System (PBIS), ensuring that students understand behavioral expectations and know how to meet them. School counselors conduct character-building sessions and work together with the Dean of Students to assist students with conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
Rawlinson Road Middle School is committed to enriching the overall educational experience by offering various opportunities. Students have the chance to participate in interest clubs of their choice weekly during school hours. Organizational clubs like Academic Challenge, Beta Club, and Student Ambassadors meet outside of regular school hours. Our fine arts classes provide students with exceptional experiences, including fall and spring theater productions. The Raider band program has achieved recognition by placing in the District Honor Band and All-Region Band. Additionally, both the Raider Band and Chorus programs have received Excellent and Superior Ratings at the Carowinds Festival of Music. The school's competitive sports programs cater to a diverse range of athletic interests, including football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, cheer, and softball.
Rawlinson Road values the active involvement of parents through the School Improvement Council. Working collaboratively as a team enables us to offer support to students, families, faculty, and staff. Our parent organization hosts events throughout the year to enhance the middle school experience for all involved.
