The mission of Chestnut Oaks Middle School is to provide an engaging environment to prepare all students to succeed. Our school continues its efforts in helping all students develop the world-class skills and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by fostering a safe learning environment where SOARing is our motto. Chestnut Oaks Middle School students are encouraged to seek excellence, opt to use good manners, activate listening and learning skills, and respect self and others (SOAR).
The students of Chestnut Oaks Middle School have soared and achieved excellence in many areas. Twenty-three students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society for the 2024-2025 school year. Our NJHS students participated in community service projects such as ringing the bell during the Christmas holiday for the Salvation Army, feeding the homeless, and collecting donations for needy families. Two students were nominated to represent our school for the Evening Optimist Club Youth Award. There were eight students who won at the Future Business Leaders of America State Conference in the areas of Running an Effective Meeting, Career Research, Leadership, Annual Chapter Activities, Elevator Speech, Interpersonal Communication, Exploring Economics, and Community Service Presentations. Three students were recognized on the Sumter County Middle School All-Conference Team for the 2023-2024 school year. Thirty students participated in the Manufacturing Expo/STEM Innovation Challenge Project hosted by Shaw AFB in Sumter and two won distinguished medals in the area of Engineering and Mathematics in this year's competition. One hundred and eight students participated in the International Walk to School day in which the objective was to promote healthier lifestyles and habits which in turn will promote better productivity and wellness in future college and career pursuits. The Sumter Chamber of Commerce recognized fourteen students in the areas of integrity, determination, leadership, honesty, and overall exceptional character at Golden Apple Awards.
For the 2023-2024 school year, Ms. Christal Tisdal was the school level Teacher of the Year. Moving into 2024-2025 year, the school level Teacher of the Year is Mr. Bryant Nelson.
We continue to set academic goals and monitor progress in attaining these goals, striving for excellence in academics, service, and character education. Additionally, we are dedicated to enhancing and embracing college and career readiness initiatives to better prepare our students for their futures.
