At L.E. Gable Middle School, we strive to cultivate a community of BOLD learners who are not afraid to embrace challenges and stand out as exceptional individuals. Our acronym, BOLD, represents the core values of Bravery, Organization, Leadership and Discipline that guide our students to become confident and well-rounded members of society. Over 150 students, faculty and staff were nominated by their peers to be recognized for being BOLD Bucks this school year.
L.E. Gable Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by developing leaders and critical thinkers. At Gable, we provide students the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom through engaging instructional strategies. Our teachers provided teacher lead Tier 1 professional development over the course of the school year leading sessions on topics such as: Flex Seating in the Middle School Classroom, The Importance of Spiral Review and High Expectations and Procedures in the Middle School Classroom. Our teachers also were active participants in observing one another and reflecting as a team on those observations. This collaboration amongst faculty was well received and we are looking for future opportunities for teacher led professional development in the upcoming year.
At Gable, our students are taught the importance of college and career readiness. Our career development facilitator provides students with access to career development assessment programs as well as targeted career planning instruction. All students participate in the S.C. Occupational Information System to provide up-to-date educational and career information to students and parents.
Our teachers work hard to ensure student needs are met and provide additional enrichment opportunities to support student achievement in academics, the arts and athletics. We offer a wide variety of academic coursework in order to meet the needs of our students. We also have a full time reading intervention teacher and instructional coach to facilitate additional academic intervention opportunities.
With a rich tradition of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics, our goal every year is to allow our BOLD Bucks to achieve success. We have established a Leadership class which develops, leads, and carries out multiple service projects in our school. This group involves the entire student body in projects while developing necessary leadership skills needed to be successful in life. This past year, GMS students hosted a Veteran’s Day ceremony for our community. We also participated in a school wide dodgeball tournament to benefit the American Heart Association, with students raising approximately $1,200 to donate to the association. Students at Gable also donated approximately $1,000 to Kids in Lids as a donation to kids fighting childhood cancer.
