Southeast Middle is committed to establishing a conducive learning environment that focuses on student attendance, academics, and student behavior. Our motto is "Every Child, Every Day." During the 2023-24 academic year, our students were administered our universal screener for Reading & Math using the Renaissance STAR Assessment. Although all students did not meet their growth target, we showed significant growth school-wide. All students were encouraged to set goals for meeting the expected growth rate. Students that did meet their growth rate were celebrated for their success. Southeast is an authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP). The IB MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make connections between their studies and the real world. The program focuses on developing students into creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. Throughout the school year, teachers worked to familiarize students with the learner profile and to incorporate the IB philosophy in all aspects of the school day. All certified teachers also developed and implemented their unit plans aligned with the curriculum standards and pacing guides of RCSD1. Student data conferences were held with students to help them better understand their data, growth and expectations. School Counselors and teachers addressed students' Social and Emotional Learning needs through class lessons, small group and one-on-one sessions. We also utilized Mastery Connect to assess our students, develop and administer common formative assessments, and identify intervention groups. Deep Data Dive conferences were held to review the strengths and weaknesses of student growth targets, and an action plan was developed to address the academic intervention needs of our students. This year our students will continue to have the opportunity to participate in two organizations that will enhance their leadership skills. Our Young Men Leadership Alliance and our Young Ladies of Essence organizations allowed students to experience activities outside of the classroom. Additionally, all students can participate in several community service projects. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) will continue to be addressed for our students, parents, and faculty members through various means led by our School Counselors and Parent Engagement Specialist. We understand that these factors influence behavior, achievement, and attendance. Southeast will always strive for academic success and improvements in all areas for all students as we believe in educating the whole child and supporting our faculty and staff.
