Northwood Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment by implementing our school vision: a school that is "A Community of Learners." We demonstrate this vision by challenging our students to reach their full potential using best teaching practices in a collaborative learning environment. Continuous professional development of our teachers is also at the core of our foundation.
At Northwood Middle School, we also have various opportunities outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child, including athletics and special-interest student clubs. We believe that developing academic and interpersonal skills are essential for lifelong success. Therefore, we take a student-centered approach to everything we do to create a unique middle school experience. We believe our students must learn what it means to be learners, teammates, and leaders.
Our students lead their peers as Service Learners, as members and officers in the Student Council, Junior Beta Club, National Junior Honor Society, National Junior Art Honor Society, and as peer tutors. These opportunities empower our students to serve others and enhance their community-focused environment. We are also continuing our partnership with the United Way's Mentor Greenville program. This mentoring program allows students to gain self-esteem, confidence, and increased achievement. Our school counseling department is instrumental in student development by teaching executive functioning, peer-mediation, character education, and career readiness lessons in monthly classroom guidance sessions. At Northwood Middle, we believe the school, family, and community share the responsibility of educating our young people. We appreciate your support in developing our future South Carolina graduates and world leaders. Mr. Donald Spann, Chair of the School Improvement Council, Mr. Treva Lee, Principal
